Are you supporting Movember 2011 (for men’s health, prostate cancer, and other cancers that affect men)?

Contributor: B8trDude B8trDude
Okay, Movember 2011 is just a few weeks away (can't believe how time flies). I started a thread about it last year and thought it would be best to begin again for this year's festivities. The description of Movember from the official US web site states:

"During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in the US and around the world. With their “Mo’s”, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men.

"On Movember 1st, guys register at Movember.com with a clean-shaven face. For the rest of the month, these selfless and generous men, known as Mo Bros, groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery. Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, Movember Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mo-growing efforts.

"Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November. Through their actions and words they raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.

"At the end of the month, Mo Bros and Mo Sistas celebrate their gallantry and valor by either throwing their own Movember party or attending one of the infamous Gala Partés held around the world by Movember, for Movember."

With that in mind, are you going to participate this year?

Really like the cause and would love to be able to do this, but I'm starting a new job Monday. I will still be in that kind of new-hire probationary period then and can't really risk it. Not sure how they would view it. Hope they raise a lot of awareness for this though!

Almost forgot about this thread, thanks for mentioning it in my workshop.

I can't wait to see the looks on the faces at work, no one in my town has seen me without my mustache and goatee.

It's to bad this does not get as much attention as "Save the Ta-tas" does.
My dad lost his prostate and grandpa died from testicular cancer, hits pretty close to home for me.

This will be my third year doing this - it always feels strange to shave everything off at the beginning of the month. I almost feel naked without my mustache and goatee.

Pretty much, going to shave after the kids get done tricker treating. I need a hair cut so I might shave that down to a one as well. Folks at work should flip. I have a video to do so I am sure a few folks around her will be taken back too.

I'm not a fan of facial hair, but if you believe in the cause, do what you want and I'll support it ^_^

Movember is when guys shave off their beard/mustache and or grow one for the month of November. It is in support of prostate and testicular cancers. The link in the opening post as all the details.

Nothing like shaving it off and finding out what's underneath No one mentioned a thing to me after I shaved it off

I'll attempt it, but I'm not really a big fan of facial hair. I may crack after two weeks.

I think you guys should post a picture of the growth every day. I couldn't talk my husband into doing this

I had a few that noticed, the others at work (if they noticed) didn't say a thing.

What has been a suprise is the lack of knowledge about Movember. 98% of the folks I talked to about it had no clue, pretty sad if you ask me.

Proudly following along with y'all!

The friends who introduced me to this in college called it "Novembeard" instead, which I thought was a better name---but were still in it for prostate cancer awareness. (A big deal!)

Facial hair won't fly for my partner, but I'm planning extra-big smiles on the street for everyone I see participating, just like every year.

Way to go, Tim, B8trDude, and ErrantVenture!

I will have to talk to The Man about doing this. He's always messing around with his facial hair, shaving, growing it, sculpting it etc.

It's for a great cause. I will ask him, although he's very paranoid about being "seen" on the internet. He doesn't even have a FB page.

Even if pictures aren't shared, it would still be awesome if he participated. He could also take the same lower part of the face shot that Tim did up there if he didn't want to show much, but nobody's gonna heckle him for not sharing photos

I'm not a fan of facial hair, so I support those I won't be snuggling up to XD. The best part is bothering a friend of mine with a beard by weirdly petting it and going 'beardy beardy beardy'.

Coming on the heels of breast cancer awareness, we should all be aware that men also fall victim to breast cancer. In addition to testicle self examination, all you guys (or friends of guys!) should run you hands over your upper chest and under your arms to check for lumps and bumps. I have known 2 men who were diagnosed several years ago. One did well and for the other it wasn't a happy ending.

I am in solidarity with all my brothers to support prostate and testicular cancer through research, education and public awareness.
