Are you supporting Movember (for prostate and testicular cancer research)?

Contributor: B8trDude B8trDude
Movember is an annual event that was started in Australia a few years ago to support research on prostate and testicular cancer. Movember occurs each November and men are encouraged to start cleanshaven and grow a mustache during the month. The description from the official US web site states:

"The 'Mo', slang for moustache, and November come together each year for Movember.

Each Movember we challenge men to change their appearance and the face of men's health by growing a moustache. The moustache is our ribbon, the means by which we raise awareness and funds for cancers that affect men. Much like the commitment to run or walk for charity, our commitment is to grow a moustache for 30 days. Funds raised benefit the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG."

Of course, those of us that participate here are probably already very active in supporting prostate and testicular health

You're welcome! I just found out about it last year (at the end of November) when someone I met on facebook, who is from Australia, told me about it. I thought this one was kind of neat.

I think it's a great and funny way to support a good cause, but you do not want me to grow facial hair, not pretty.

Never heard about it till just know. My Grandpa died of testicular cancer, so I totally support a effort like this.

SO if I have a Mo, do I shave it off and start over?

You forgot about giving ladies the option of using a fake mustache.

I think there are many men even around here who know that it's important to get checked but still find many medical procedures unpleasant, especially in the course of being done by someone you really don't know.

Go for it, Kindred

Dwtim, sorry to hear about your Grandpa. Yeah, like you, I've already got facial hair - I'm just shaving it off and going to just grow it back. I first learned of this late last November (barely time to participate) after I first heard about it online from someone in Australia. Movember is better known in other parts of the world (most countries even raised more money than the U.S.) but hopefully, it'll catch on a lot more this year.

ScottA, if the ladies want wear a fake mustache, that's great! I'm sure that would get a lot of attention and for a good cause.

Right now, the Movember web site is reporting that Australia has 3264 "Mo Bros" registered, the UK has 4332, Ireland has 286, New Zealand has 240, and Canada has 2551. The United States currently has a measly 2631 (yes, Australia and the UK have a lot more with Canada not far behind) but there is still a lot of time to go before Movember begins. I doubt anyone will complain if the ladies want to join in - they can also be MoSistas. Last year, a total of 255,755 Mobros and Mosistas participated.

Maybe EF should offer a special on a masturbator to help men excercise their prostate and testicles during Movember

I guess that is what I'll do then.

Kindred, I will not see it from my house so what is the problem?

You don't understand. My facial hair, what little of it there is, grows in looking like pubic hair. Yeah, no pubestache for me, thanks. Maybe I'll just buy a Halloween one instead

I'll join in with you, Dwtime -

Kindred, Kindred...

Of course, you can always make one or do the Halloween thing. How about a pencil mustache?

I love this! I think there needs to be more awareness of men's cancers, what a great idea!

Someone should bring up the things you can do at home - I guess I'll start another thread promoting self or partner testicular/breast exams.

After watching the NFL this week I would say this would be a way to get them to support prostate and testicle cancer- As for myself the last time I shaved was only once after I was married. 10 year survivor of prostate cancer.

I'd never heard of it! I'm assuming some derivatives have been going around though (and unfortunately lost their meaning) because many of my friends participate in "Novembeard".

Viktor - go for it! Yeah, I'm going to have to shave everything off at the beginning of Movember too - oh well, it'll make my nose look bigger for a few days

Dusk - Never heard of "Novembeard" before - it doesn't look like that is related to anything alturistic though - like "Movember" is.

hahaha

Reminds me of "Moustache Boy" the penguins have, if someone misses a shootout at practice they make them grow one.

I'm not sure how growing a mustache helps prostate cancer, but I support those with prostate or testicular cancer, but not mustaches, I abhor facial hair

SO, shall we post before and after pic's? I have not shaved my mustache for about five years, the wife wants pic's so I figured if we posted some pic's it would just show our support more.
