Has anyone experienced problems with you / your husband getting in the mood while on meds? If so which ones? My man is on Paxel for anxiety, and he had a problem for a while, but not we have it worked out.

There are certain drugs (one of the most common being metformin for diabetes) that can lower testosterone in men, making it harder to get as hard as they once had. It was quite a quandry when it first came up but once we realized it was the drug, and got his hormone levels back up, all is well.

I was actually on Paxil for about 6 months and my sex drive was unaffected but I could not, no matter what I tried, have an orgasm on it. I had other side effects as well so I just switched drugs.

I have no direct experience - but the list of drugs with reported sexual side effects is huge. Almost all anti-depressants do and prostate medications like Avodart do as well. But side effects are not universal - they affect some more than others - and some not at all.

My bf was on Adderall before, and any erections he got said it felt like he'd stuck his crotch into a fire, so it killed them. Luckily he didn't have to take those meds for long.

Certain medications for depression and anxiety, called SSRI's, are notorious for causing sexual dysfunction. Paxel (generic name is paroxetine) is one of the worst. He could talk to his doctor about switching to one that might not be as bad.

There are a lot of antidepressants. Often Paxil is chosen because it works well on anxiety with depression. But, if it is causing sexual problems, he should talk to his doctor and have the medication changed.

I know years ago, I was on Prozac and could get excited, but had a really hard time having an orgasm. I told the doctor, "This is not a side effect I can tolerate." We tried a number of different meds, and for me, some didn't work on the depression, and one other one (Tofranil, I think) caused the same orgasm issue.

Zoloft worked well with no side effects. He may have to try several, but he should let his doctor know he is having sexual dysfunction from the Paxil. A good doctor wants the patient completely functioning, sexually and otherwise.

Every one responds differently to different medications so they will have to try things until his anxiety and depression are helped AND he is not having intolerable side effects.

Blood pressure medicine can cause this problem too. A close friend had erection issues on one medicine, but the one he's on now acts like Viagra for him. I'll look up what the viagra like drug is if anyone is interested.

Viagra actually was originally developed to help with blood pressure issues and blood flow issues. We use it sometimes in the NICU (Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit) with pre-term babies and getting insurance companies to pay for it (especially if it is a girl baby) is very difficult.
