I've never seen my mental illness as a disability. I could see why someone would as it is debilitating, but i'm not comfortable comparing them. It doesn't seem right at all.
So, the idea of being "mentally ill" has become mentally disabled. Do you believe that people who are mentally ill are just as disabled as someone with a physical disability?
I am 'mentally ill' and I am not mentally disabled. They are two totally different things.

It would depend on the severity of the illness. I myself have a serious mental illness, Schizoaffective Disorder but I hold down a job, have a family and I am fairly social. I am lucky in that my symptom presentation is mild and I respond well to treatment others are not as lucky and can be completely disabled.
