Is anyone familiar with natural versions of Viagra?

Contributor: removedacnt removedacnt
My husband, who is 53, is having some problems with "keeping it up". There are sooooo many natural pills out there that it could make your head spin. I was wondering if anyone here knows which ones work. Also I'm concerned that some of them seem to raise your blood pressure. And that some have an ingredient called Yohimbe that seems to upset many men's stomachs.

We don't have health insurance, so going to the Dr to get an RX is out of the question.

Thanks!

I'm not sure I'll be much help with this one because I haven't personally tried any of them, for obvious reasons, but I have met a few people in my lifetime who swear by Horny Goad Weed. It's also known as Epimedium or Yin Yang Huo. Again, I'm not sure if they really work or just provide a placebo effect and I have no idea what it might do to blood pressure. It might be worth looking into though. I really doubt that you are going to be able to find a "natural" Viagra but who knows?

I do wish you the best of luck and let us know if you find anything that works out for you! =)

I have tried Yohimbe and I **hated** it. For what it's worth, here's my experience...

My ex-boyfriend and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about with Yohimbe. We got a bottle at a natural foods store and took it according to the package directions. Within about two hours, I felt like I had drunk two pots of coffee (I don't drink a lot of caffeinated beverages) and I was really, really antsy. I couldn't sit still, I was nervous and irritable, and I was bouncing off the walls. My ex was having the same experience.

We both decided we might as well fuck to see if we could salvage something from the evening, but no dice. We wanted it but there was something going on physiologically that made orgasm impossible. I threw in the towel after I got too sore. My ex spent a good 30 minutes jacking off before he finally came. When he did come, he said it was really unsatisfying and almost painful. I cursed him out for his brilliant idea to give Yohimbe a try and then we spent the rest of the night lying next to each other in bed pissed off because we couldn't sleep.

The moral of the story is that Yohimbe certainly does add to your sex drive. What they don't tell you is that wanting to get off and actually being capable of getting off are two different things.

I had heard bad things about Yohimbe also. So obviously I'm looking for something that doesn't contain it.

But thanks! That helped me to solidify that decision.

I've also heard Horny Goad Weede is supposed to be good but I don't have any first hand experience. I'm not sure what effect it would have on blood pressure but I don't remember reading anything about it raising the blood pressure.

my ex-bf used yohimbine and loved it. He had problems from taking anti-depressants and wanted to try something natural. He walked around with a semi-hard on all day. and it completely took care of the problem. If you have any traumatic memories do not take it as it is also used to recall memories for patients with PTSD.

Horny Goat Weed does work - I wrote an extensive post about it on my blog. link

As a caution, "natural" does not mean no side effects (can be dangerous). Some natural substances can create havoc on blood pressure, not to be taken lightly.
Strongly suggest MD consult prior to self medication. Viagra, itself, is not w/o side effects.
I would hate to see a partner in distress or dead just to have a stronger hard-on.

I agree. That's why I'm being very cautious.

Good advice - although Horny Goat Weed's active ingredient, Icariin, has fewer contraindications than Viagra because it only inhibits PDE5, not PDE6 as well.

Viagra and most drugs are synthesized versions of natural ingrediants (so greedy pharma companies can copyright them) and almost universally have side effects that don't occur with the natural substance.

Viagra was first used to help people with their blood pressure. (in certain instances.) The overwhelming side effect was enough to make them change their marketing.
Revatio is now prescribed for women, Viagra by another name. Exactly the same thing.

My advice is to check with a pharmacist (its free!) and check his blood pressure before you put anything in his body. Just because something is over the counter doesn't mean it's safe.

There a lot of herbs and such that just take your money. I tried one and it wound up being a scam, I had to contact the credit card company. I take levitra. I get it in 20 mg doses, cut the pills in half. The good thing is I dont need these every time! Activity on Monday, can mean a return visit on Tuesday! The pills cost about $15.00, but check around the different pharmacys, they do have sales on these!!!

I'm a fan of Cialis - it's effective for about 36 hours and helps with PE as well as ED.

I was watching a documentary the other day about heart disease, clogged arteries, and that type of scary stuff. They were saying that MOST (but not all) Erectile Disfunction is a symptom & warning sign of these kind of heart problems. If you are experiencing this kind of a problem, you should probably check in with your doctor and also maybe look at some big picture changes. I am not an expert on any of this stuff, but I am pretty sure that a lot of these E.D. drugs (and maybe the natural supplements, I am not sure) are really bad for you if you have any of the heart problems that may be causing the E.D.

No one said anything about kegles. Good for both men and women, gets the blood to the right spot. squeeze release repeat. I love them and they *seem* to work, but I may just be healthy enough that there are no underlying problems significant enough to cause problems. Still the effort is minimal, private (you can do it in a chair, in the car, bla, bla, bla) and no reason not to try them. General exercise is a good bet as well, it is easier to be intimate if you feel good about your self and do not tire physically.

Good luck, I wish you both well.

I'm 63 and don't miss a day. I agree about doing Kegel exercises, and I would add that a healthy diet and aerobic exercise are equally important.

Italians swear by garlic and onions and I eat a lot of them.
