How do you feel about condom use in porn?

Related to: HIV and the Porn Industry: Testing, Condoms and Trust On June 4, Patient Zero was tested for HIV. She worked on June 5, and her results came in positive for HIV presence in the bloodstream on June 6. At that point, all hell began to break loose.

So I'm curious. How do you feel about condom use in porn? How about the fact that people lose work for requesting them? The arguments that condoms can actually make things less safe due to length of shoots and "latex drag"?

Why would it matter if the male or female chooses condoms? Is there some implication than either sex would be more/less likely to want to use them?

I was going to ask the same question.

I usually watch queer porn which shows safer sex practices and I think it's hot to see because it lets me know they are really having fun w/o worrying about disease.

If I was having sex with people as my job, I'd want to use a condom no matter my gender.

I think it should be left up to both participants with no repercussions. As for seeing it in my porn, I don't mind too much as long as it's not a magical appearance. I don't like seeing him start to go for her without a condom, and then BOOM the angle changes as he's entering and it's there. Then it's gone in another angle change as he cums on her face. It just irks me.

I think condoms can be made into a sexy form of foreplay, and so can dental dams and nitrile gloves.

It should be a necessity. Latex drag? They could just take breaks to put on new condoms and lube everything back up. Sounds like an excuse, and a poor one, to be unsafe.

Actors and actresses should definitely not be punished or lose work for requesting something that's in the best interest of their health.

I like this idea since I heard about what happened on a porn set in the early 80's late 70's. I don't remember which movie it was, but ONE person had HIV/AIDS, by the end, the WHOLE CAST had it...poor fluffers

Condoms should be changed frequently during long shoots and relubed.

I don't think it should be required that condoms be worn but I certainly don't think there should be any pressure on an actor to go without a condom. As far as personal preference I don't think there's anything sexy about a condom. Kind of obtrusive when I see it in porn, but it's not a huge deal. Just sort of ruins cum shots and stuff like that, but it's not like I'm half-way there and I see a rubber and can't cum.

I hate seeing condoms in porn. I get the safety arguments, but I watch porn for the fantasy. Why do we watch action/adventure movies, where the characters perform all sorts of stunts we would never try in real life? Stuntmen/stuntwomen routinely assume injury risk to bring us into the fantasy world that is an action/adventure movie. Why is it any different for porn?

I personally don't like seeing them. However, when working in an industry that has a high risk for STIs, I can understand why the stars wear them. I would never fault a person for wanting to wear them. For me though, I will stop watching a film most times unless I am really into it. [Such as some of the sexandsubmission videos that use them]

I find condoms in porn sort of distracting from the fantasy. That said, if I were in porn I would feel very strongly about using condoms. Safety and preference of those making the porn comes first.

I agree that condoms distract from the fantasy. So, I don't like to see them. However, especially when watching gay porn (although the same applies for str8 porn as well), I wonder what real choices were given to the actors. Did they have an opportunity to object, or were they told by the production company they would be fired and instantly replaced if they didn't do the scene condom-free. I guess they are always free to walk away, but I imagine there aren't a lot of people willing to take that kind of stand against their employers.

Condoms turn me off, porn with warnings (a lot of adam and eve porn has these, anyone who has an A&E disc knows what I'm talking about unless they changed it) also is a turn off. Regarding the warnings, if I wanted to be celibate I doubt I would be the kind of person who would buy porn.

But I think it is the individual's choice about condoms. They just turn me off. I don't really like seeing them. I hate messy cumshots but, they always choose really gaudy condoms or the condom is pulled obnoxiously tight so it makes the guys weiner looked like an overstuffed sausage casing. I just think it looks nasty.

Oh, an an afterthought- the 'trendy' porn where people put condoms on everything, even sterilizable strapons.. god that annoys me. I understand if they're gonna use it on multiple people but it happens in one on one scenes as well where I wonder why they bother to put a condom on that toy when it can be washed. If its fluids they're worried about, they'd get on the harness potentially with or without the condom so its just un-necessary and annoying to me. AFAIK there is usually a panel that keeps the harnessed toy from directly touching the skin of the user in most cases, so I just don't see the danger. Use gloves or dental dams, sure, but condoms for strap ons and toys that are sterilizable and wont be shared within the scene or within the porno at all? are they so lazy they can't boil a pan of water between fuck sessions? I mean come on, porn isn't shot in one long string its done in scenes like everything else... ugh.

Of course they should be used. Protection is always important. Something as easy to use as a condom should never be overlooked when your life is at stake. And I think all producers should require them to wear them. Some people just make bad choices. And this would protect a small amount of the population.

I like to see condom usage in porn, but i'd prefer to leave it to the performers.

I think it should be required. Otherwise, I would be a hypocrite, as I strongly express safe-sex, and having sex with multiple partners without a condom is not safe-sex.

I admit I dislike the look of condoms in porn and in life. But I think porn stars should wear them, and get frequent testing. But what they do should be up to them unless who they work for requires condoms (and that's not a bad idea).

I think condom use in porn is a good thing, so that diseases and infections are not spread so quickly. However, seeing condoms in porn does kinda turn me off. I don't know why. It's just not as appealing and real looking to me I guess. That's probably because the hubby and I don't use them.

It's a risky business, but precautions can be taken to reduce those risks. I'm surprised condom use isn't mandatory in all porn! All we hear is sex education this and that, and yet, porn can't even promote it?! So what is their stand on it? There's a lot of gray area there in my opinion. I believe Chi Chi La Rue (director) requires condoms in all his/her movies. Was it fun for the actors? I don't know, they are ACTORS, I'm sure there was some editing, but it looked fun from our point of view. It's their job to make it look fun and as realistic as possible, I realize that, but I think safety should come first.

I bought the book "Pornland: How Porn Has Hijacked Our Sexuality" and I'm curious to see what it says. Perhaps if condoms were required in porn, viewers could see that it's still fun and it would promoted safe yet still naughty sex! Visually, of course, it LOOKS better without a condom and if that's the case, well it's really up to the actors, but they have to understand the long-term complications when "hell breaks loose".

Don't porn stars have to get tested? I always wonder about this, because you would think if they are tested and it comes back clean for both then they should be fine to have sex without a condom. But then again they probably have sex with multiple people in a day?

I personally don't like condoms, but I stick to one person and my toys so I don't have too much to worry about. As far as watching a porno with condoms on, I think I have only ever seen one and it wasn't bothersome, but it didn't turn me on either. So I guess it all comes down to personal preference.

I don't think that someone should be judged for their choice to use condoms or not, and not getting work because of it is almost discrimination to me. Everyone has a right to protect themselves.

I think it should be up to them, and yes they have to get tested every 6 (it may now be 3) months, but you screw so many people day-to-day including work and your home life that it's impossible to be safe 100% of the time. There was just a recent HIV outbreak in the porn industry. Scary stuff!

When I watch condom-less porn, I worry. I think about the spread of STDs and HIV and I think about pregnancy. I forget I'm watching porn and have to "Ahem" myself back to the action. When I watch safer-sex porn I register that they are safer, there are less worries, I feel like I can relate to it and I can stay in the moment.

Should be required... if they are making the money why not live a long and happy life and not have to worry about contracting a incurable disease

I think that they should be used manditorily, and they don't bother me at all. I am also reminded that I should use condoms when I see it in porn.
