What is your main reason for using contraception/birth control?

Contributor: Ciao. Ciao.
There are many different methods of contraception out there, but I would imagine that most people have multiple reasons for actually using them. So I am curious: what are the reasons EF users take/use a method of birth control?

My main reason is to avoid having another child. My second reason is to regulate my period.

I started it to regulate my period, but now I am using primarily for pregnancy prevention. Though I am going with my current method due to the fact I have only had 1 period in almost 3 years.

My main reason is pregnancy prevention but one of the key reasons I started taking it was to help with my back pain. Every month I would get horrible back pain so bad that I wouldn't sleep for about 2 days. Thankfully the pills have helped with that.

I have polycystic ovarian syndrome, which makes when i have a period extremely painful. I take birth control to prevent having a period at all from it.

Just switched from the pill to an IUD. Aside from randomly needing it for pregnancy prevention, I mostly need it for medical stuff. My period, aside from being horribly irregular without birth control, last super heavily for two weeks.... Then I also have such horrible cramping I cannot describe the pain. I have an incredibly tilted uterus and it is apparently a cause of at least the horrible cramping. (They barely managed to find my cervix to get my IUD in though, that's how tilted my uterus is!)

My husband has a vasectomy, so pregnancy isn't an issue anymore. I do, however, have debilitating periods, so I use birth control to alleviate those issues.

I use the pill to prevent pregnancy and to control my period. I take my active pills continuously so that I have only 4 periods a year. My doctor said it's safe for me and I'd rather not have a period.

I got on the pill as soon as I became sexually active because if I ended up pregnant in high school my mom would have kicked my ass. I'm on it now to still prevent pregnancy so I can finish college and get out of my mothers house. I want to have a child badly but I'm highly stressed with school and it wouldn't be safe for the baby. It's also nice because you pretty much know within 1 to 3 days when you're period is coming and it helps cramps but they changed mine and I get cramps again. I plan to go off the pill late this year or sometime next year to try to get pregnant. After that I'll either get back on the pill or get one of those implants or whatever. I hate condoms and since I'm engaged I'd rather use a different form of BC.

I use condoms for birth control and STD prevention. Not getting preggers is the most immediate concern, but it's nice to be safe from diseases, too.

I would love to have scores of children but financially and physically I cannot so we use condoms since my body reacted horrifyingly bad to the lowest doses available of the hormone BC. We all want our children to want for nothing so for now we have three children we love to bits and maybe later we'll look into fostering or adoption if our financial situation changes.

Preventing pregnancy. We're done and neither of us want to get fixed.

I have been on hormonal forms of birth control to control the effects of endometriosis. That was years ago.
