How many women here have the IUD

I was thinking about getting or trying Mirena, what's your experience with insertion and using it as a birth control. Please share.

I don't but I am also looking into it. I'll be keeping my eye on this thread.

I just got one (Mirena) the beginning of last month. The insertion was not fun, but also not the worst thing ever and one day of pain is worth not having to worry about BC for five years. Also, I've yet to get my period since I got it, which is nice. So, it saves money and is "green" on a lot of fronts. My skin was broken out for a month, but it's calmed down now and is as good as it was before (I was concerned that I would be broken out forever). I love it and I'm really glad I got it.

My friend has it, and apparently getting it was super painful. I'm kind of terrified of them, sticking with the nuva ring, thank you very much...

My wife use's the copper one. She has had it for almost 5 years. Have not had any problems. It throws her periods off alittle, but does not make them worse. She said that it was not painful to have it inserted.

I'm about to get this to control my heavy, painful periods. So I'm bumping this up because I would like to hear some more feedback from people who've gotten it for that reason!

I just got the Paragard inserted last week! The insertion wasn't too painful, it was definitely manageable and less worse than my period cramps off the pill. If you do decide to get an IUD, I hope your experience is quite pleasant!

Well, I was cautioned against the copper because of a possibility for heavier bleeding and was assured the the hormones would only be localized and I wouldn't have to suffer from the mood effects of oral or injected hormones.

I think if this doesn't work, we're thinking ablation, which I'm OK with, but I'd rather try this first.

I ... more
I got the Mirena because my periods were really heavy and erratic before I was on the pill, and I didn't want to have month-long bleeding again. Since I got it, I haven't had my period once!

It releases hormones locally instead of systemically and works by thinning out your uterine lining, not fucking with your hormones. I'm really happy I got it.

You're welcome to PM me, but I wanted to post here because I know IUDs come up from time to time.

I just had the Paraguard put in the copper one. I was going to make a post on this but I'll join this one. I thought It hurt getting put in but it's my last resort. I can't have the pills it makes me discharge horrible stuff sorry to say I know it's gross but I need info/help. Anything with hormones does that to me. I don't trust female condoms, I haven't had much bleeding only from it being put in. Today I woke up with a constant pain really low down there. I was just in the ER last night due to constapation which is a chronic thing for me. They gave me a water enima which has helped so half my pain is gone but this pain is diff then that. I had xrays and can see my IUD and it didn't look 'wrong' or out of place. So did this happen to anyone else? How long did pain/cramps last. Mine is a constant pain not on and off cramping. I tried looking up side effects but there aren't really any beside the cramping of it being put in. I would like personal exsperiance info anyone can give me.

My doc did say that the copper ones could cause more problems than the Mirena.. The thing with the Mirena is that it's a localized hormone

When I got my Paraguard I had the pain/cramping for four or five days and then I was pretty much fine. Now, every now and then I'll get a little cramp but it's not even as bad as the cramps I get with my period. Your body just needs to get used to having something foreign in there.

I've read on the livejournal community that some women experience constipation with an IUD (but since it's chronic I guess this isn't very relevant, is it?) How long ago have you had it inserted? You might want to see your doctor or whoever inserted your Paragard if it's unusual cramping.

I hope it works out for you! x

She: A friend of ours got an IUD and is trying to convince me to get one too now. The idea of a doctor sticking something through my cervix freaks me out and I'm fine with a pill every morning for the time being.

I used to have it. It was great when I did have it, but it fell out and I now have my second little pair of feet!
