Another pregnancy poll! How many women had a false negative on the day after their period was due?

Contributor: bayosgirl bayosgirl
So....my husband and I had unprotected sex a couple weeks ago. My period was due yesterday (Thursday), and it didn't start. Maybe this is paranoia, but I went ahead and took a pregnancy test this morning, first thing, since the hormones are obviously more concentrated then. It was negative. I've heard about false negatives with pregnancy tests, but that's usually BEFORE the period is due, right? But then I started thinking about the fact that when I was pregnant before (and had an early miscarriage), I tested TWO WEEKS after my missed period, and the test still showed a very faint line, indicating low(er) levels of hormone. Is it possible that my body/my embryos just don't produce much HCG and take much longer than average to even show up on a HPT?

I'm really worried here. Not that it would be horrible if I got pregnant again, but I took the miscarriage pretty hard, and I'm afraid I'd be a nervous wreck the entire pregnancy, worried about having another one.

I just wanted to know if any other women have experienced this--a negative result on the day of, or after their missed period, that was later shown to be false. And at what point did the positive finally show up? Thanks so much for your input.

I understand how you feel with the miscarriage. I have gone through the same thing although, I was 12 weeks along. I'm sorry.
Give it two weeks and test again if your period doesn't start.

I'd test again in a week as long as your period doesn't show up. You might be right about your hormone level. I never had that problem. My test show up positive almost right away, however I know that doesn't happen for everyone. (I know I'm pregnant before the test. I'm so sick!!) I know a girl whose test at home would be negative, but when she finally went to the Dr and they did a blood test she was pregnant.

I agree, in a week if it still has not come, that is when you should try and test again.

Thank you. It is really hard, isn't it? I hope Mother's Day doesn't shake me up too much.

Well, I was an emotional WRECK today (not related to Mother's Day...yet...at least I wasn't thinking about it) which is characteristic of PMS for me. And I *think* I felt a twinge of cramps coming on. Tested again tonight (I know, I know, impatient me!) and it was negative again. let's hope I get my period soon.
