Are you a bronze god/goddess?

Contributor: teeny <3 teeny <3
Summer is rapidly approaching here in the U.S. and I am once again painfully reminded of how fair skinned I am, despite my dedication to a post-shower fake-and-bake lotion routine. Not that I should find anything wrong with my natural complexion, but I hate going out to the pool/lake/beach and hearing the comments from friends and strangers about how I "need to" get more sun.

Is everyone but me a bronze god/goddess? How/why do you do it? What's so wrongh with a natural skin tone? Feel free to elaborate, discuss and help us pasty folk through our seasonal insecurities.

I do tan in the sun occasionally. I usually use self tanning products though, since it's healthier for my skin. I also find it evens out my skin tone, and helps conceal the stretch marks on my hips, instead of making them stand out more like a real tan does.

I never get more than a farmers tan and have ever since I can remember. Once in a blue moon I will use some sun screen, but honestly I am not to worried about it. I grew up a mile closer to the sun, now that I am at see level I don't get much of a tan or burn for that matter.

Every summer I want a tan, and I always give up. This year I am hoping to get some color from actually being outside, but I just went and signed up for a month of tanning in a bed.

I have tried the bed before, but I didn't go enough to get any color and I always feel like it dries my skin out. I plan on getting outside more this year with my son, hopefully that helps.

I also tried some spray tan stuff before, but I tested it out on my skin before I bought it and it didn't do anything (so I didn't get it).

I don't want to be super tan, I just want to have some color to my Casper looking ass. LOL

We go to the local beach every year for a week and I like to enjoy the sun a little. Mostly I'm under an umbrella, but I do enjoy some sun.

I'm kind of a tanning addict =/ But I do it indoors mostly (& moisturize) to do it wisely. I was in & out of the hospital the past two months I should have been building my base tan, so I'm just getting around to that now for the summer. I go to the most high tech salon in the area & use both booths & beds.

I'm not horribly pale but I am on the paler side. However, if I head out into the sun I tend to tan pretty easily. But I work overnights so that isn't too often.

I don't make any attempt to tan. Not only because of the health risks but because I think pale skin is very pretty.
If I tan its only from naturally being outside and walking around in the sun, or swimming.

I am supper pale and prone to burn more than tan. Every summer I will have a very slight tan by August but for the most part I try and avoid that kind of sun exposure.

I have generally pale olive-tone skin. I don't like to tan because melanoma runs in my family, and also I just look better pale. I like being paler. I'm never going to be alabaster or have a creamy skin tone.

In any case, I typically use 40 or 50 SPF when I'm going to be outside for longer than an hour (I burn really easily).

I was so about to do a poll on this. I fucking love tanning! It's how I relax. I do it multiple times a week if possible. I never go to the point of burning and I always hydrate my skin with Designer Skin.

To answer your questions:

Is everyone but me a bronze god/goddess? You are not alone.

How/why do you do it? It is super relaxing to me. I have fallen asleep in tanning beds plenty of times (no worries! they are timed to shut off). The lotion I use is amazing and makes my skin look sexy and feel sexy.

What's so wrongh with a natural skin tone? I think tan bodies look sexier. Sometimes I feel that being pale looks unhealthy, like malnourished or something. I feel sexier with a tan and tan year round. But fair skin can be beautiful as well. It's just not how I prefer to look.

I tan naturally in the sun, but not usually on purpose. Sometimes I'll think about it and lay outside for half an hour reading, but that's about it. I certainly don't tan very much and I happened to get a bit bronzer at school because I was walking outside to all of my classes. I like the look of tanned skin but I also don't want to get skin cancer (eek!) I'm also noticing more freckles so I'm trying to use sunscreen more often.

I tan regularly. I'm dark complected a little bit so it doesn't take but two tanning bed visits and I'm very dark then I just have to keep it up. I have always been a pretty heavy tanner since I was 8. I enjoy it soo much. It's relaxing and a lot of times the only relaxation I get. I am just now starting my tanning package with a new company because my regulars closed down and I was stuck going to some crappy one that's just owned by some lady & she constantly cancels on me every time. It's wasted so much of my money. She just says she can't make it every dang day! I then end up tanning one night & having an appt for 3-4 days later and suddenly she calls and says she cant make it or she won't be there! Last week she did this & ive ended up losing my tan so many times and having to start over because of it. I kept trying to stick it out so she'd have a regular customer, but I can't. Last week I made my final decision to dump her when she cancelled on me saying she wouldnt make it down there & I happen to be driving by there & saw her sitting outside smoking and talking to friends! What kind of business is that? Also, she's constantly presssuring me to buy her packages because "I'll save so much money." No, I'll save a whole $3! & I've told her I cannot put up 30$ and end up being cancelled on and never have a tan. She keeps pushing it on me & the last time I went which was about a week and a half ago, she started pushing $40 tanning lotion on me & will not give up when I tell her I cannot pay that price & I have a preferred lotion that I will NOT quit using just to switch to her $40 brand so she makes money. She won't let it go and acts like she's mad at me when I say sorry I cannot put up that money for a package that I wont even get to use and I don't want to switch lotions. Mine works well & its a heft 15 dollars cheaper. I'm so glad I found a new company to tan with! Whoo hoo!

I try not to tan or get too much sun because my family history includes melanoma and I'm terrified it will affect me. Not to mention, looking like a leather bag at a young age is not appealing. I'll stick to SPF and fake bake.

But, I know what you mean about getting tired of being told how pale you are. More than once I've been told I'm the "whitest" person someone knows and I want to smack them for being so rude!

I avoid the sun. I had fairer skin that doesn't take too much to burn to a crisp.
My Master prefers fair skin so I'm happy leaving it be!

I'll lay out in the sun on occasion, and I'll plan for tan lines if I'm going to be outside by wearing a bikini or something like that, but most of the time I just endup tan from being outside and not from purposefully trying to tan.

Nope - I'm super pale and I'm good with it. My mom's already had several types of skin cancer from extreme sun exposure when she was younger so I don't risk it. I go out in the sun and even to the beach, I'm just loaded up w/ sunscreen. It takes about 10 minutes for me to burn without it.

I have a natural tan. Even though I have a natural tan I get sunburned easily so I use sun block when I go out and try to avoid the sun. I also don't want to look older before my time because of sun damage.

I'm half Celtic and half Mediterranean. I have olive skin, that is actually slightly pale. It's a weird color. When I do get sun, and when I was a kid (before people realized how dangerous tanning was) I would get so dark in the sun, people though I was mixed heritage at times.

I now wear sun screen and a hat and stay olive/light all year round. I am, however, frequently mistaken for a Latina.

But, I do nothing to cause my skin to tan. Too dangerous. My father tanned for years, and used a "sun lamp" for tanning and acne when he was younger. He has had two cancerous growths removed from his face. No thank you.

I am also fighting skin aging, and don't want more work than I already have.

I don't purposely go out and lay out in the sun to get tan. But during the summer time in Florida, it's impossible to not get some color.

I usually end up burning when I go out in the sun, so I use a lot of sunscreen. I don't think I look good with tan skin anyway. I do use Jergens Natural Glow lotion to make my skin look a little healthier.
