Conservative christian wants to know why women Hook up

so guy wrote a thing about how women are damaged if they are slutty slut sluts, and should wait for Mr. right. Now he is asking why women "hook up"

I think it would be great to offer responses that shows that hooking up can be positive and fun.

hooking up is not for everyone, but it is right (and darn fun) in some contexts.

Here is the text of my response:

I'm not christian. I hook up because I get enjoyment from it. The same reason I eat chocolate peanut butter coconut ice cream. The same reason I body surf. I dislike the idea that conventional sex be such a power play. All of my hook ups have been because I wanted to have sex with the person.

I've had lots of premarital sex, but only a few "hook ups." It was because I was attracted to the men, and they were attracted to me. Occasionally it was because I was lonely, and those experiences weren't as fun, since they weren't based on having fun. But I've had whole relationships based on that too, often without sex. I don't feel damaged from any of the experiences. However, I felt damaged for quite a while after a sexless relationship where the guy treated me poorly.

Just as relationships, hook ups can be positive or negative. I tend to hook up with people when there is no chance for a relationship but still attraction. (geographical or political differences, I'm (or he) is travelling, for example.)

I tend to think relationships are better, because as you get to know someone, you can try new things, and in monogamous contexts, you can do without certain safe sex tools once you have been tested. less
