I wax myself and then tweeze any stragglers.
The first time, I took some ibuprofen an hour before and had a drink to help relax. It hurt like hell, but was totally worth it. It really only stung for a few minutes; the hardest part was telling myself 'okay, time to rip the wax off' and then hold my skin taught without chickening out.

Waxing hurts because pubic hairs are much more coarse than leg or armpit hairs. Shaving is convenient so long as you don't shave too close and get razor burn, or accidentally nick yourself. Waxing is worth it in the long term because it's 12-24 hours of pain/redness (which can be taken down with some ibuprofen/other anti-inflammatory), and then up to 4 weeks smooth, depending on how long you've been waxing. If you wax long enough, the hair won't grow back at all. It adds up to cost about the same as buying disposable razors and using them every day, actually. Personally, I prefer waxing because it's just so smooth and low maintenance for weeks afterwards.

I just got my bikini waxed for the first time ever 3 weeks ago. It didn't hurt nearly as much as I thought it would. Especially because the woman working on me kept a light conversation going throughout. This helped to distract me and cut down on the pain. Three weeks later I'm really impressed with how less of my hair is growing back! I will definitely be going to get waxed again.
On the note of cost I want to add that I found a good clean place locally that will do a French bikini for $25. I see places charging $70 for a Brazilian and I'm really not into paying that much.

Waxing, though I mostly shave because my Master doesn't have to mess with waxing me...
It doesn't only last longer, it is also an extremely impish, playful, fun and exciting thing, especially if your precious has a hint of sadism in him/her, because the grin you see is fuckin priceless, just like it must be for him/her to torture you a little, having it totally justified because you asked for it! Hilarious, I love it every single time!!!

I prefer waxing because it's "cleaner" for me. Shaving is too temporary a solution, and regrowth is so uncomfortable. I bought an epilator last year and really like it, but I find it more painful than wxing, so I'm still trying to get used to it.

I've never waxed before, but I really want to try it out sometime soon. I hate the way my skin feels after shaving, the ingrown hairs are just too much to be worth it. If I had the money I would have it lazered and never have to worry about it again. lol
