my wife use's one. What kind of questions do you have about the IUD?

mainly about the Paragard IUD its the copper one I was wondering what the side effects were.

well, you should really talk to a doctor about the side affects that you can have. I will tell you that there are less of them because the copper IUD does not contain hormones.

I currently have Mirena, which is the five year one with localized hormones. It's safer than the Paraguard IUD (Copper) according to my Obgyn, who's seen many pregnancies with it. Since the hormones are localized i haven't had the weight gain or mood swings that result from taking oral birth control. In fact, my period has gone away all together. I absolutely love it! All i do it check the strings & get it checked once a year. It's reversible, but like all intrauterine devices there are risks depending on the individual.

I use oral birth control, but if I were to use an IUD (my significant other tends to... bump them out of place, so, I probably won't) I would go with Mirena, which is plastic.

Copper doesn't seem like something I'd want in me, and I have an aunt who had to get a hysterectomy at 16 due to complications with a copper IUD.

I used to have the mirena, but I really didn't like it personally.

I JUST got the Mirena. My OB told me it was much safer than the copper as well. Since it's plastic there's less chance for implantation or perforation.

By "JUST" I mean last week. I'm still spotting and cramping a little, but I'm hoping that after several more days these side effects will clear and that my period will be lighter/gone and that I won't have the period from Hell anymore. (my tubes are tied, I simply got this for period relief)

IUD can cause infertility, mess your periods up, hurts to get put in and removed, can get enbedded in uterus if not removed correctly. i was on mirena iud and it was fine but i hated that i felt pregnant on it so i got off of it in october 2010 after a yr on it. im fine health wise but know ppl who have gotten pregnant on iud and their babies m/c =[

I have a Paragard and have had it for 3 1/2 years. I've had nearly no side effects from it. The first few days there was some cramping and spotting but since then I have had no problems and love it.

Insertion was uncomfortable but didn't really hurt. It just felt horribly awkward.

I've had paraguard for a year. I love not having to worry. it is one of the few non hormonal birth controls. Hormones mess me UP.

my period smells differently. I guess from the copper reaction. And my first few periods were much heavier and had more cramping. for me it was worth it. though I had to talk to a few doctors before one would let me get one.

apparently some doctors don't like giving them to people who haven't had kids. There are dangers, but bad things only happen very rarely, so I thought it was worth it.

Get it inserted while you are one your period. your cervix is softer, so it is easier to insert.

Yes I decided not to get it, I'm using the Fertility Awareness Method where you check your cervical position cevical fluids and basal body temp, and of course I use Condoms.

I've been on depo for 7 years to reduce the growth of my endometriosis. I don't get scared of things often, but please DO NOT get the Nuva Ring! Try searching some of the info about how many women died and the man being sued for it. It was actually pathetic how careless they were about putting it on the market. Anyways, I wanted to add that just in case. I don't know about the IUD because I only use my birth control (depo provera) for the disease, I cannot get pregnant anymore. But, I've had friends who had an IUD and never heard anything good from it. I hate that! It doesn't mean it wouldn't be good for you though. If you haven't ever taken a birth control besides the pill, I would definitely say you should start at the lowest risks possible! A lot of women can't handle the effects of things like depo, for me, the crazy side effects were a blessing compared to the pain I was enduring 2 wks every month. Maybe you'd like to try the depo injection for a while? Definitely look into it though. If you've had problems with certain health stuff then depo can be dangerous so you should know everything about it. I cant' take anything with even the least bit of estrogen due to the endo. So, if you have endo or other similar female issues like me, then stay away from high doses of estrogen (or stay away from all estrogen!) lol. That was what caused so many deaths with nuva ring, the outrageously high doses of estrogen. I hope you find the right type for you. I wish there were more option for us! It's either a pill, an implant type thing, a shot, or pregnancy! Lol.

I wold talk to a doctor. See if you can find one that acknowledges and respects that you are uncomfortable with the idea. but it is important to use something if you have penetrative vaginal sex.

If you have a planned parenthood near by they are awesome and usually very supportive.

i had it for a year. it hurts to get it put in place, hurts worse to get it out but it's quick. It can cause infertility issues if it gets imbedded in uterus at any point of having it, can cause miscarriage if u get pregnant on it. u have to check strings manually at home every couple weeks. irregular period possibly.

depo shot SUCKS omg i had that for 9 months in 08/09 i refuse to ever get it again. it made me gain 20 lbs in 7 - 8 months time. i had irregular periods, thought i was pregnant once on it but wasnt.

the pill is what im on now and like it pretty much. nuva ring is dumb; it falls out easily which is how so many ppl get pregnant using it

I have Mirena. I am absolutely happy with it, and have no complaints
The insertion was absolutely painful, but it only lasted for about a minute, and for five years of incredibly effective BC, was definitely worth it!
I haven't had a period since it was inserted (just SUUUUUPER light spotting, I don't even need a pantyliner or anything), and I'm getting close to the year mark now.
I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who's interested, it was the best choice I could have made for birth control at this point in my life
