Does anyone use Implanon?

I'm ditching my copper IUD for an Implanon.

-Have you or anyone you personally know gotten pregnant on it? I know about 500 women got pregnant on it in Europe but the majority of those were due to misplacement or it wasn't placed at all or because the women were already pregnant. It's perfect and typical use failure rate is .04%- better than tubal litigation and vasectomy!

-I know everyone's side effect are different, so I won't ask about that. How was the insertion though? How long did you bruise?

I don't mean to derail, but is this your first time using a progestin-only method? If so, you may not be happy with its side effects, and I am under the impression getting implanon removed put back out and in before it expires is a pain, and a bit of a waste.

You could use a progestin-only pill for a few months while still keeping your IUD in to see how your body reacts to the hormones. Assuming you're ditching the IUD because it makes your periods terrible, you won't get a period on the POP, and if you want better pregnancy protection, doubling up is a great way to lower the statistical chance of pregnancy.

I haven't used implanon but my body hates progesterone. If yours likes it, go for it.

I've never used Implanon, and I had never heard of it before.

I've used it and I didn't like it at all. I had constant bleeding when I was on it. They told me it was common at first and that it would dissapear after a couple of months. 9 months later I was still bleeding constantly, it was like having a period all the time. I was also quite moody and depressed when I was on it.

I definitely didn't get pregnant when I was on it because my boyfriend wouldn't have sex with my when I was bleeding. It was one of the contributing factors in our breakup.

Getting it taken out wasn't bad at all. I wish I hadn't let the doctor talk me out of getting it taken out sooner.

I've had it for a little over a year. Don't know anyone who has gotten pregnant from it. Those that do probably do because of the reasons you mentioned.

Insertion was fine, but anesthetic was used. Had a fairly large bruise for about a week, but I probably should have left the bandage on longer. I do tend to bruise easily anyway.

My period is a bit random... I did have have spotting every day for around 20 days two months after I got it. Other than that, my periods are a lot lighter and a lot less painful, and I tend to have a period every month or so like normal, though I can sometimes go two months without it or have it twice a month. I've always been rather moody but I've not found the implanon to make this worse.

This is my first time with it, so I don't know what having it removed is like.

I would, but the only progestin only pills here do not have the same hormone. Different hormone and in different amounts= different side effects. I was on the combined pill for a few years but the estrogen gave me migraines.

Spotting doesn't bother us. I have constant bleeding with the copper iud, but that isn't the reason I'm ditching it. If thats one of the only side effects I have I would be fine with it.
