The pap smear itself isn't what bothers me about these kinds of visits to the lady doc. It's the speculum insertion/removal and when I have an annual appointment I can't take her gloved fingers jammed in there and pressing around on my insides while her other hand presses from the outside of my lower belly. She tries to be as gentle as possible and it never lasts very long but holy god is it uncomfortable while it's happening.

I absolutely hated them until I found a doctor who tried using a longer speculum, so she has an easier time finding my cervix and it's over fairly quickly now. Also she has a VERY light touch! Her touch is so light I almost didn't even feel her swabbing my cervix, it just felt like a light tickle, almost enjoyable.

I HATE THEM!! The last 2 times I have had mine done I have had to get them redone in 6 months because the swab was unreadadle (blurry or diluted or something). First time I was ok, it happens. Yeah, I am switching doctors now that I have insurance!!

It's not like I look forward to them each time, but they aren't that bad. Even with the rectal exam accompanying them, I've experienced loads of things that were much worse!

They are annoying but I always use it as an excuse to eat stupid amounts of junk food. I deserve a pint of ice cream just for going to the pap!

I actually kind of enjoy them, but only because I intend to become a gynecologist when I finish school. Any slight discomfort I experience during pap smears and STI testing is quelled by the knowledge that it's the medically responsible thing to do.
I am only twenty, though, so I suppose the novelty of it may eventually wear off.

I think I may dislike them because of my crazy severe anxiety. I felt like I'd been sexually abused after my last one was over. I actually even cried a little bit :/

It's uncomfortable, but meh, so are a lot of doctor's check ups for lots of things. I hate going to the dentist more than anything. Papsmears are over pretty quickly, so I can live with it. I have one scheduled day after tomorrow, actually. Better than the dentist, I say.
