Has birth control affected you ability to get wet?

Contributor: ana123 ana123
I've been on Ortho Tri Cyclen for about 6 months now. Before I was on the pill I was the type of girl to get soaking wet in just a few minutes. Now however, it takes me FOREVER to work up any wetness. A lot of time I simply don't have the patience and just use lube. And what is weirder is the thickness and consistency of my wetness has changed. It is now white instead of clear and thicker than cum. Does any one else have this problem? Did switching pills help?

Some birth control can affect your ability to get wet. I'm not on birth control (regular periods and lack of sex eliminate the need) so I can't comment from personal experience, but you can substitute with a lubricant, or ask your Gyno about switching.

The consistency and color of your discharge changes throughout your cycle, and this sounds a lot like what mine looks/feels like when I'm ovulating. To be safe, I would call your doctor and make sure there isn't an infection though.

I just found out that this can happen. I've been on the pill since before I started having sex (to regulate my period), but I'm now thinking of switching it up to see what happens. I'm very curious if I would get wetter, quicker, because that would be sweet.

I'm on the shot, and it did mess with my sexual desire at first.

Normally I was masturbating like 3-4 times a day, and then went to 2-3 times a week.

I'm also on anti-depressants though so I can't say what's worse

It messed with my libido as well Illusional. I still want sex, just not as much as I used to. Maybe I'll look into switching.

Yep. Been off the pills for going on 2 years now, though, and I still can't soak my jeans like I used to, Plus I don't have the drive I used to either. I was on low-ogestrel for 2 years, I think it really messed with me, but doctors won't listen to me or comply with doing hormone level checks.

I don't take other meds, either.

Lots of BC pills thicken your cervical mucus as one way they prevent pregnancy. This makes it more difficult for sperm to reach the egg. I know that when I recently took a break from my low dose BC I haven't had any problems with maintaining lubrication. You might want to talk to your OBGYN about another type of BC if this is becoming problimatic.

The pill can mess with desire and ability to achieve orgasm. Then again so can anti depressants as my former Doctor callously informed me, "All anti depressants have a risk of sexual side effects"

Does anybody have any suggestions about birth control that doesn't have these types of side effects? What about an IUD? I would love to go off BC and see if I could get wetter and have better orgasms, but noooooooo babies, please!

I love the stress-freeness of it though.

A lot of the time the side effects from birth control just depends on how your body reacts to it. An IUD might be a good option, the Mirena is a low hormone IUD that may not cause this problem for you. But it's so hard to say because everyone is different.

I'd def talk to your doctor about the problem directly. He or she is probably familiar with the side-affects associated with the different forms of BC.

I've gotta talk to my Doc soon. I've been on BC since before I started having sex, so I have no idea how it's affected my libido, wetness, ability to orgasm, ect. These are really interesting threads!

I'm on the Nuvaring and have had no problems getting wet or with anything else. My partner doesn't really notice it either. I love it. I have no side effects except a much shorter period. Good luck with what you and your doc decide.

I've been on Ortho Tricyclen now for about 10 months and at first I had that same prob. I would say around the 6th month it got better. Before that I was on Loestrin FE and I had a lot worse problems I had absolutely NO sex drive, I was depressed, had daily headaches, and I was constantly having breakthrough bleeding. I would def talk to your Dr. Everyone is diff and yes that can be a side effect of the pill. For me it went away once my body got used to the hormones!
