I think it would be extremely scarey if a woman is about to have sex and forget she had on a tampon. I dont know if its ever happend to anybody but thinking about it just makes me uncomfortable.

It wouldn't be scary, it would be annoying. As an example, next time you are wearing a tampon, try to push it further in with your finger. It would be something you would notice quite quickly, before anything could possibly "get out of hand".

It is possible to have sex with a tampon in and retrieve it, but most women would notice the discomfort almost instantly, should for some reason she forget she have one in. I myself have never made this mistake, but a friend of mine who is in her mid 20s had never worn a tampon before, because she didn't realize you could still wear one with a heavier flow, and she forgot she had it in when she and hubby were getting intimate, she realized instantly that she had it in because of the pressure, so I can assure you, you should not end up in a situation where you realize after sex that you forgot it in there.
I will, however, mention that working at Johns Hopkins in the outpatient clinic, a woman did come in who had forgotten she had it in, had passed out drunk shortly after, and came in the next day because she couldn't get it out. So, perhaps the best idea is no heavy drinking while wearing a tampon?

I think most women would remember before things got to heated because that string could really kill the moment.

i used to forget with my boy all the time. we'd continue to have sex and either realize it was in at one point or... not. it didn't hurt and he could hardly feel it sometimes.
if i did realize it i'd just take it out and lay it aside to dump once we were finished.
he even took it out once for me in an act of love. tampons are the yuckiest though, if you ask me.
now i use a MoonCup and i can have sex with it in, though certain positions are not comfy that way. it's also not so nasty if i decide to take it out, though i do need to go to the bathroom to dump it if there's anything inside.
no big deal.
