So...I had mine around age 11. My mom wanted to throw a welcoming party or some ridiculousness.

I went on nuvaring and didn't have my period for three months straight. Then, it gave me blood clots in my eyes, and I had to quit using it. Sad day. It was FANTASTIC to not have a period.

You might want to see a doctor. This is unusual and should be checked to make sure you're in good health.

A few months after my 12th birthday. As my mother died when I was little, and my father assumed that my sister and I would start late because our mother did, he never got around to covering the subject for us. My sister started in church and was convinced she was dying. She told me of the horrible thing lying in wait, but wasn't too specific on the details.

My stepmother never gave me a talk on it, but began snooping through my laundry when I was 13, looking for bloody underwear. When she found some and got me to admit it, she announced it to my family on the same day that my three closest friends were over, getting ready to go to summer camp. I wanted to melt through the floor, especially since I was the first of us to get mine.

I was twelve and at my grandmother's house for the week. Lucky for me, my mom had forced me to carry pads around with me EVERYWHERE for about six months up until I got it - I think she just knew I was close and wanted me to be prepared.

I actually had the funniest story regarding my first period. I was at my grandma's, like I said, but I was with my cousin (whom I absolutely hated). My grandparents were out on a date night and it started storming outside. The power went out, which it usually did when the storms started, and my cousin and I were playing cards in candlelight and with flashbacks. I totally thought I felt I had peed my pants, so I ran to the bathroom with a flashlight and was convinced I was dying. I called my mom, panicked, and she congratulated me and told me where she had put the pads in my bag.

Ugh. It was humiliating, though. I hated it, especially since my cousin hadn't gotten it yet.

I was 12, I remember I was devastated lol! I cried because I didn't want to wear pads and tampons and have to start carrying them to school. I remember being so embarrassed and worried about making noises with the wrappers in the bathroom because I didn't want people to hear/know.

11 years and change, aka the year 2000.
My mom would have gotten hers in the year 1974, when she was 14. I wish I was a late bloomer like her. My sister was the same age, too, at menarche. Not fair!
I'm gonna wildly blame the hormones in cow milk for this. I drank milk like it was the cure and my mom and sister hated it.

I got mine about 6 months before my 13th birthday. I'd hoped my mom would let me have the day off from school - no such luck!

11 or 12, I think? I had horrible, horrible cramps and it was so nasty. I had to go to the doctor becuase it lasted almost two weeks. I found out that my uterus is tipped in such a weird angle that it's almost folded. I got an IUD a few years later and haven't had a period since.

I got mine when I was 12 on thanksgiving when the whole family was there (about 25+ people). My Nana announced "MY BABY IS NOW A WOMAN!" I will never forget that. She even started making phone calls to people that weren't there on thanksgiving. Pfft. lol

I got mine when I was 9. No one had expected it to happen so early so I was terrified. I felt so embarrassed that I was the only girl in class who had started menstruating.

I was 10 and it was Black Friday that year... And my stepmother never felt the need to warn me that that would happen eventually... I was home alone with my brother when it started... Not a very good day to say the least.
