I was 10 when I started mine in 1996. I knew about a period from the "puberty lesson" the school nurse had given us in 4th grade, but I still freaked out. I was sure I had cancer and spent the next day in my room crying because I knew I was going to die. My parents eventually calmed me down and assured me all was well. To this day, neither of my them has ever talked to me again about periods, sex, maturation, etc.

The Victorian woman usually experienced her first "Curse" at about 16, now the average is about 11 or 12. In developing countries, the average is much older than in Post Industrial countries like the USA and most of Europe, Australia and parts of South America.

I was in 6th grade, almost eleven not quite though. I remember going on a field trip while I was on my period. I had spent all year wishing it would start actually. I have no idea why I was in such a hurry to have my period at ten years old.

I was 9 years old when I had my first.. I'm super irregular though, didn't have anohter one until I was 12 or 13..

11 or 12. Very embarrassing because no one else in my grade had it yet and they always talked about how gross periods were and how glad they were they didn't have them T____T

I think I was 11 or 12, it was in the 80's. I was in Middle School and they were AWFUL! I had such a heavy flow, no one had told me what was "normal" in that department. I should have gone to the gyno much sooner than I did.

i remember lying about getting mine already at age 12 during a slumber party. all my girlfriends had already started theirs and i felt out of place.
when i finally did get it at age 13 i was embarrassed again that it had come so late.
i do remember being about 10 and riding a bike and getting blood on my underwear from labia being squished and crying, so distraught, to my mother that i thought i'd started my period. i was horrified.
and relieved, and horrified again, when she told me it wasn't. such a strange stage.

I was thirteen and I remember it happened during PE on the night of a school dance. I just walked up to my mom after school and told her I got my first period and she was shocked that i was so blunt, because she apparently hid it from her mother when she first got it lol

I got it in the 6th grade, whatever age that was i think 11? I got it before all of my friends so I denied having it until after they said they got it then I was like heyy I've had mine for 2 years now.. haha

I got mine when I was 14 and it was always extremely heavy. So heavy that I would have to wear overnight pads to school and change between every class to avoid going through my jeans. The pill has been my savior.

I was 8 1/2 and that would have been 1993. I knew about it before it happened. Funnily enough, mine started at a pizza place. While in the car on the way home I announced it. My dad said, "What'd you do, rub pizza sauce in your underwear?"
It was embarrassing being in elementary school. There weren't any garbage cans in the bathrooms, so of course girls always asked me what I was doing. For the most part they didn't tease me.
What was more embarrassing was when I needed to change my pad, and so I asked to be excused to the restroom, and a teacher wouldn't want to let me go. I whisper to them the reason why, and they don't believe me. So there were times I came home with bloody underwear/clothes and my parents complained and my teachers would get in trouble for not letting me leave. (Not like I took advantage of it.)
