Mirena: Does the bleeding ever end?

Contributor: Cammie ♥ Cammie ♥
I was tempted to say "Does the hell ever end?" but I better not as things have finally slowed down.

My question is for those that have the Mirena.

I've had mine for over 3 months and this month, my period has lasted 4 weeks (and counting). Does it ever end? Please tell me this is normal. I went back to my checkup and everything is still in place, but this bleeding is really annoying.

Thanks in advance!

I have severe endometriosis and I got a Mirena because my cycles were so bad. After about the 6th month I completely stopped having periods and I love it. I will never use anything else.

Wow, is that normal? You have made me swear that off the list for the future!

My sister didn't really have any problems with that while she was on it. But she ended up with the rarer 'randomly start getting sick constantly' side effect. She got off it for that reason.

I'd say call your doctor's office to ask them. If they didn't say anything at your last checkup it might just be a weird side effect.

My wife will likely be using the Mirena pretty soon for the same reasons cdawn stated above. I was pleased to see this thread, since I was actually considering asking this question here so I could get some real world feedback on what can be expected.

When i 1st got mine, i bled for almost 4 months nonstop then it finally stopped. Ive had mine for 2 years now and i have about 2 periods a year and they are very light. I've had no problems with it. Just bare with it, it will get better!

I am one of the lucky ones who had their period just about stop immediately after getting Mirena inserted. The period that had started a day or so before insertion went on as usual, and ever since I have had either light bleeding for two or three days or no period at all. I got mine put in last June and have bought one box of tampons since.

A friend of mine has had one in for about a month now and there has been constant spotting, but that's too be expected.

I've heard it's normal for a while. I just got mine on Monday so it's hard to tell. For now I'm just spotting.

It's normal for a long time after you get it...but once it stops, it's amazing! Try to wait it out!

I've had mine in for 4 years now and my period has stopped completely. I love it. No cramps, occasional spotting, and not having to stress out about broken condoms or forgotten pills.

I have a question. Was it really uncomfortable for anyone when they inserted it?

In my case, any bleeding I was having stopped a week or so after insertion and now, about 8 months later, I haven't had a single period since.
I've heard plenty of mixed stories, and I would figure you'll just need to wait it out You have plenty of time still for your body to adjust! I wish you luck!!
