No more IUD

Contributor: SecretToyLover2 SecretToyLover2
Finally got my IUD (Mirena) removed. Didn't realize how much pain that thing has been causing me. My OB/GYN actually found that it was slightly embedded in my uterine wall. I kept having bleeding a day after sex with tons of cramps. Made no sense and felt awful. It would stop after a few days thankfully. I also bled out of nowhere rather than a regular period. Once a week at least for a day or two.

Anyone else have horror stories?

Oh wow! What great news and I'm glad you found out where the pain was coming from. Yikes. That sounds horrific! I've heard of them moving a lot. Guess it's best you got that thing out.

No, I have not used the IUD because I've been scared to. Lol. I worry about going off Depo Provera since I use it for help with endometriosis, but don't think I'd get an IUD even if I didn't get Depo. Definitely won't after hearing this! LOL.

I can't get the IUD most doctors where I am at won't insert one unless you have had kids which I don't have. I am not having anything implanted in my body for fear that it will grow into my uterus or cervix. Very scary, glad you were able to get it taken out.

I could have chosen a Mirena IUD but I was too scared so I chose pills instead. But if my pills are still negatively affecting my blood pressure then I'll have to get a Mirena because it's the next best thing. I've heard a lot of bad stories but also a lot of good too. I'm scared of it though, that's for sure. I'm glad you're alright.

We were just talking about me getting one. I refuse to put on in my uterus. It seems like everyone has horror stories about them doing similar things. I am thinking about trying the one that goes in your arm instead. However, I am still not sure. Your body knows when there is a foreign object inside it. The body automatically tries to remove these objects slowly over time. So, even if you scrapped your knee and had a stone imbedded, the body pushes it out. I don't want that going on in something so precious as my uterus. I'd much rather have it in my arm where I will notice complications right away.

I got one a month ago, and I have had no problems yet. So far I love it. I know there are horror stories all over the internet, but that's just because the only people who post about it hated it! Those who like it don't have any reason to go to the internet.

I had one in for about two years before I started having issues. I had terrible cramping that started with sex, but then began happening 24/7. They said it didn't imbed in me, but I guess it was in the process of starting because I was in a TON of pain. Took a week to figure out that the IUD was causing all the issues. A day after it was removed I was better. Never again.

i've only heard horrible things about the Mirena in particular, however i know others who use the copper IUD's have much better experiences.

I know plenty of women who have them, which is why I got mine. An entire group of women I worked with (probably ten or twelve that I can count) all got theirs put in, same month. Our friend, who I will call "T", said "We should all get them put in and stop worrying about our pills" so they did, I didn't put mine in with them but I heard no complaints. A few months later my doctor recommended it to regulate my cycle. A week after mine was put in I asked women at work how they were with their IUD's and I got literally NO good feedback from the entire lunch table (big long table too!) all you heard was "I know, right?!" And "I'm going to get mine out". I felt like "Oh shit, just make a mistake".

I have heard the same, I wonder what the issue is. I hate the idea of being back without birth control. Mainly because condoms are terrible for me and my husband and the pills don't work with my medication.

This used to be the case far more often, but by the time I got my first in (6 years ago), they didn't even ask if I had kids.

This is a timely topic. I just had mine swapped out. Much more pain the second time around, but just finished my period. Figure my cervix and uterus were sensitive. There was no doubt I'd go back to anything but another IUD.

If your gynecologist said Mirena would help regulate your period that's a pretty uninformed gyno, no offense...Mirena, like other long term birth controls with hormones, do quite the opposite and cause way more problems for menstrual cycles. The only good they can do for that is to make your bleeding lighter, or reduce cramps, but even then, you may bleed all the time, not at all, you just never know. That goes for the implant, Implanon, as well.

I have had a Paragard for a year and a half now and I love it. If I still love it when I get it removed, and I am still with a man, I will have another one reinserted because I never want to birth my own children.

I actually loved my IUD, except I kept getting BV, so I had mine removed. No more problems with BV, but I had to get on the pill

I LOVED my mirena. I had it for four and a half years before I had it removed. I only had it removed because I had dreams about bleeding two months in a row on the full moon.

I had it removed, and a week later, on the full moon, I bled.

I've got an apointment to talk a bout getting the paragard today actually.

Twice now in about three years since I got my Mirena I've had episodes of severe pain, accompanied by near fainting and general weakness. The doctor sends me for an ultrasound, and nothing has ever been wrong. I have no idea why it happened. The first time I don't think I'd had sex prior to the issue, the second I had. Ideas?
