Ever performed or had anything to do with a tarot reading?

Contributor: K101 K101
Hi guys! My partner happened across a box of these strange tarot cards with the whole kit and instructions. Since I really don't believe in most readings or going to psychics I'm not totally interested in getting in depth with them, but am interested in learning. I was reading through the kit and thought it was neat and I do believe there are some psychics and many different gifts. I believe in paranormal, etc. I've had quite some experiences with the paranormal. My aunt, mother and my partner and myself have regular trips to haunted places for fun.

Anyways, I just wandered what all you guys think about the whole tarot card readingS? Ever performed a reading or had one performed for you? Anything else you'd like to add about this stuff or other similar things feel free to do so!

I have never had my cards read professionally. Although I had friends who practiced on me several times. I do think its an interesting thing to think about, but one must trust the people who read for you. If you get a bad feeling from the reader, the place the reading is being done in, or start to feel uncomfortable during the reading TELL the reader you need to stop and leave!

I have a set of "Inner Child Cards" that are very similar to Tarot, but not as scary. I used to use them quite frequently, when I was more involved in a lot of "New Age" stuff. This was more than 10 years ago. Honestly, I haven't touched them in years.

I do have a website that sends me a reading along with my horoscope every day, but it is electronic and rarely accurate.

If you do get involved with psychics and readings, make sure you can trust the person doing the reading and you get a good, healthy feel from them.

I've never gotten my cards read professionally, and friends and I have messed around with the cards on our own. I'd be interested in having them done for fun.

I own a deck of tarot cards and I have read them for myself and others. They're fun, but I take it with a grain of salt. I am generally distrusting of those who set themselves up as psychics. Most of them are just duping people with cold reading methods.

My brother has performed tarot readings for me, and I have been interested in learning myself. A lot of it is pretty much open to interpretation and you see what you want to see. But it can help to put things into perspective and if you get a positive reading, it can be very motivational to move forward with something you may have been nervous about.

I own a deck but I never did really learn to read. I've had a few readings in my life, but I'll only let a very select few people read for me. I don't know how much I believe, but either way I think things are often best left unknown - whether there is such a thing as fate, or whether I'd just be swayed to act differently and do the self-fulfilling prophecy thing.

I fully support learning about the art of tarot readings, but not if you don't believe in them. That kind of goes against their very nature. I have and still occasionally do readings for other people, and had a few of my own a really long time ago. Some of it was incredibly accurate, the rest of it I was able to change before it came to be. That's just my personal belief on the matter. The future can always be changed.

I don't have tarot cards, but a friend of mine has a set and we use to practice giving readings to each other. In general, I wasn't very accurate with the cards. However I do have some runes and I've developed my own way of reading them using their meanings as a guide and I've been fairly accurate to a point that friends frequently ask me to do readings for them.

Used to, but I've let my talent slip. Never professional, but people always came to me and traded favors for readings. I was fairly accurate, too.

yea, same here. but i think it's more of a fear that I'd be doing something wrong for me... I don't know, it's just how I was raised, and sometimes I can't help it

I've done them and had them done. I view tarot as a tool for introspection.

I don't see what harm it does doing a reading, but I won't like religiously believe everything and take it too seriously

Oh how interesting. I wouldn't get involved with it, but I did find it interesting to learn things about the cards. I just couldn't ever have a reading or psychic thing done. I would get too creeped out. Lol I think it is interesting, but wouldn't get involved myself if there is anything bad that can happen.

I agree with ya. The cards we happened across are a fun thing to read, but mostly inspirational like get along with your family and things will run smoothly. I am like you I guess, it's nice to learn, but I don't take it seriously or get deeply involved in it. I certainly don't trust those psychics you pay, but I believe some people have special abilities, ones that are gifts for good. Like when you hear about those young kids with gifts and they help find missing people and such. I do think that is possible, but heck I don't know nothing about it anyways. Lol. Those psychics you pay, I think they just guess. It would be easy to guess and at least come close if you are a person who can study people.

Runes? Mind if I ask what those are? Sorry, I don't know much about this stuff, but am really interested in knowing. It sounds like you know quite a bit. That is very neat.

Has it ever been anything like death? I know that is probably a stupid question, but I've wondered if people who've done the readings have every gotten the "death card" have you ever had to deliver that news to someone? Sorry, I am nosey.

No worries, I'd be happy to explain. Here's an image Viking Runes I use these ones, and they are written on small smooth pebbles large enough for the rune to be read. I have a book that tells me their meaning in depth and I follow my intuition on what that meaning pertains to who ever I'm reading the runes for. Much like tarot in that way. I have who ever is receiving the reading draw 3 runes, past present future, and while they don't have a "Death" rune per se, they have several that mean Ending, Constraint, Disruption and the like. And if they draw a rune reversed/upside down that means something different then how it would mean face up. So where as someone who would draw a Death tarot, doesnt necessarily mean that they are going to die (though it can) it could just be an ending to an age/time period (or death of that time period) if they were having bad luck for several years, or several years of great peace could be ending. It just depends on who its for and the feelings I get when reading the runes.

I was raised in a pretty religious household where things like tarot cards were strictly against the rules. The Catholic's have a lot to say about these sort of things. That said, I quit being Catholic when I was thirteen and my mom started studying other religions as I got older. She was the one who purchased my first set of 'tarot' cards at a flea market. They're aboriginal dreaming cards-- which are a little bit different. I love them though. I'm sort of attached to them mostly because they stood for, to me, a new step in my life. A sort of spiritual change.

I don't really use them very often anymore, but I think they're really neat and I haven't gotten rid of them. I purchased some other cards awhile back. My partners's family is also open to this sort of thing and I've actually gotten a reading done by one of my partner's family friends that was stunningly accurate.

I started to learn more about tarot cards (and arch-typical images) in college actually. I was a big fan of Carl Jung, who discussed Tarot cards a few times during his life. link

Also, a friend and I went to a psychic once and she read my cards using an Dgyptian deck. It was also very accurate.

We have a psychic fair twice a year where I live. I usually make it there about once a year and I've had a couple of different types of readings done. Some were accurate and some were not. I've had a card reading, but I don't think they were tarot cards.

I really liked getting a "picture" taken of my aura. That seems to be pretty accurate in my experience so I get that done each time I go.

I don't base any major life decisions on what any of the psychics say, but I do think it's good for some fun and entertainment.

I think theyre fun, not so much as a psychic tool but as a visual aid for organizing your thoughts. I own quite a few decks and do readings all the time. If you view it as a real future predicting tool, i think you will be disappointed.

I've never had them read professionally, but one of my teachers practices on me when I was in high school. I had finished the entire terms work in 4 weeks so he decided he would practice on me. It was more fun than actual school work.

I've had readings done by a friend that were terrifyingly accurate, and I've done readings for others. I think they can be a psychic tool, and they can also be an excellent tool for guiding your mind down pathways it needs to take. With anything that "predicts" the future, they can only predict one possible "pathway" so it's really not wise to base everything on something read in the cards.

The Death card doesn't necessary mean someone is literally going to die. It could mean the death to an old way of think or doing things. Generally, it could represent any type of major change where the status quo has to "die" to make way for the new way.
