We practiced it - I think my birthing class had us start around the 5th or 6th month (it's been a long time, so I don't remember exactly). I ended up having C-sections, so it didn't make much of a difference for me

Didn't prepare, and I had a 10 lb baby. My dr told me she would be 8 lbs and I KNEW she would be bigger. I was pissed he wouldn't do a C-Sec. I was cussing him out while trying to push her out. Of course she got stuck and they had to use some suction thingy to get her out! I am 110 lbs normally ( was 150 2 days before she was born two weeks early) and now I feel all stretche out. It was 7 yrs ago, and I feel like you could drive a truck up in there!!

I didn't prepare with either of my kids, (both of which ended up having big noggins). My first was 8 lbs 4 oz, and after more than two and a half hours of pushing the doc finally gave me an episiotomy. The second came in at 8lbs 2 oz, and with only a few minutes of pushing I was left with very minor tearing, right along the same line as my epi.

I never even heard of preparing your vagina for childbirth. It might have helped. They gave me an episiotomy and I still tore rather badly.

I did nothing to prepare. With my first, I had some superficial tears and 16 stitches. They weren't deep tears, just mostly the top layers of skin. I also gave birth to a little Amazon - 9 lb 8 oz baby girl.

With my second (he was 7 lbs 11 oz) there was no tearing.

My boyfriend helped me with perineal massage during the later part of my pregnancy and I didn't have any tearing or stitches whatsoever. My baby was a month early though so he was smaller than he would have been full term.

Prepared thoroughly, massaged daily with wheatgerm oil (same on my nipples)for my first birth, suffered a slight tear.
Didn't prepare so much for my second birth, only started massaging at about 7 months, tore really badly. Both babies were over 8lbs.
Says it all!
