I have been considering getting a vertical hood piercing and/or my nipples pierced for years. My primary concern is getting weird looks or comments from my doctors, though I also have heard that you need to wear padded bras with nipple piercings. What have your experiences been?

I've had my nipples pierced and a vertical hood piercing+4 outer labia piercings. My doctor didn't bat an eye at any of them.
As for padded bras, your nipples tend to be half to fully hard with piercings in them, so unless you want to advertise that you have that particular body mod, you'll want a t-shirt style bra or something similar.

Piercings are so common these days you won't get any weird looks over them.
I have my nipples pierced. You will want padded bras in the beginning (they protect the piercings really well while they're healing) and they're generally easier to wear on a daily basis, but it's not necessary all the time. I have some nice lacy bras that aren't padded but still cover up the piercings, it mostly depends on the material and thickness of the bra - obviously a piercing will show through a fabric that's too thin.
You'll definitely want to get padded swimsuits though if you'll be wearing them in public (learned this the hard way).

I wouldn't worry about it! I've had my nipples pierced for a few months, and I still never wear bras, and I don't find it really makes a difference.
