Say what? Lube question.

I saw the following reply posted on a message board for moms. The original poster is 8 months pregnant with no sex drive and was asking for advice. A passion party rep jumped on to help, and offered the following advice (I copied and pasted this, so the spelling/grammatical errors are hers):

"There are so many awesome lubes out there and most of them are safe during pregnancy because they work with your bodies own chemistry to created natural lubrication."

Personally, my bullshit radar was going off big time, but there might actually be a product out there that makes these claims. She didn't go in to any details, so I have no idea what lube she's talking about. I sort of challenged her on it and posted some specific questions, such as how does it work, what the active ingredient is that stimulates lubrication, etc. Then I thought you guys on here know WAY more than her, so I'll ask you. IS there a lube which causes a woman to lubricate herself?

Sure there is! When a woman uses lubricant, she becomes, well, lubricated! And sometimes the wetness causes the woman to become even more turned on and self-lubricated.

Ah, I misunderstood her meaning. I tend to take things too literally.

No, I was not saying that. She probably meant it the way you said it, I was just being sarcastic in my response. HAAH!

Er... except...

I've become a religious ToyFluid user because it seems to jumpstart my lubrication (among other reasons). It could totally be a placebo effect. Or it could be that feeling my own wetness does turn me on more, and ToyFluid feels really natural to me. I dunno. I guess it is what it is.

I'm sure some of the sensual enhancers stimulate lubrication, if only because of the extra stimulation. Perhaps the poster meant one of those?

You know, I was wondering if you were, but since I wasn't sure I offered up a token "my bad" reply. I'm glad you told me your initial response was intended sarcastically, because otherwise I'd have to think less of you.

I asked her for clarification. I'll have to try ToyFluid. Is that what came in a sample pouch with my Layaspot? I thought it was silicone-based and gave it to my neighbor. Oh wait, no. I can't use anything with glycerin. That's probably why I gave my sample away.

Well, could she maybe mean that the lubricant eases the initial penetration which then allows you to enjoy sex enough that you'll create your own lubrication? Although, the comment does sound like she's saying that the lubricants ingredients do something to cause it, which I've never heard of...but then again I'm not exactly an expert on lubes!

Alicia - I agree. Using a little lube in the beginning helps my wife 'get started' then her natural lubrication takes over.

I can imagine someone saying that's just because there has not been enough foreplay to stimulate her naturally. But I assure you that's not the case. As we age or have hormonal issues - natural lubrication can diminish. That combined with the fact that our foreplay involves a variety of penetrative toys - makes using lube a necessity.

Gee, I don't know. The better sex gets, the more I produce my own lubricant. Sometimes any lube does that. I like astroglide the best, and ID and WET are my second favorites. Good question.
