Sex Headaches?

Contributor: ToyGurl ToyGurl
I've recently started having these headaches ONLY when I orgasm. It's like a shooting, stabbing pain that comes up the back of the neck, through the jaw and all over my skull. SO PAINFUL.

They're known as "Sex Headaches". My sub neurologist didn't have a whole lot of info for me when I called. My usual neurologist is out of town so I couldn't speak with him. I figured it was some sort of migraine but I've found quite a bit of stuff online about them... except nothing extremely helpful to me.

Does anyone else have these, and do you know how to get rid of them or have any stories that might be helpful?

I don't but my guy has had them. They started suddenly, continued every time we had sex for a few weeks, and then suddenly stopped!

For us, we found that not having sex for about a week, no masturbating or anything, fixed the problem. NO CLUE what causes these but everything I've read and learned implies that this should help. I could see if I can find something else for you, though.

This happens to me every now and then. I get migraines so I figure I'm just prone to headache issues.

Generally after a few weeks it just stops. I don't do anything different because I refuse to go without an orgasm for a week!! I get headaches a few times a week anyway so I just suck it up and take one of my many pills.

Never asked my doctor about it. If you do, please let me know what s/he says. I'd be very interested to know.

I get a mild headache after I orgasm sometimes (usually just with partner sex). I read that it happens and isn't anything unusual - like the Orgasm Rash some women get. Annoying, but it happens.

Still, check with your usual neurologist just to make sure it isn't anything else due to the severity of the headache.
