Sharp Pains?

Contributor: wrecklesswords wrecklesswords
Do any of you experience sharp knife-stab like pains around your ovary area of your body? Whether on your period or not? I'm talking the kind of pain that is sharp and painful, maybe knocks the wind out of you a little, and makes you want to topple over in pain?

This happens with me not regularly, but not rarely. Sometimes the pain will only last a few seconds, but every now and then, the pain will ebb in and out for 10-20 minutes at a time. The worst was one night when I was at my lady's house and we were trying to get to bed, but I was in so much pain I was crying.

Anyone? Or any ideas what it might be caused by?

Could be a cyst.. could be something else. There is a lot of stuff in that area. I would hit the Doc's office and get it checked.

I've had cysts that felt like that. It wasn't pleasant. I also get ovulation pains, and I very much hate them, but that's only one day per month.

Do you have it about 2 weeks before your period, most of the time? It could be Mittelschmerz. This is pain when the ovary releases the egg. It happens, obviously, when you ovulate, that happens about 14 days before your period begins.

If it's more random, it could be anything from a small cyst to endometriosis, even irritable bowel syndrome.

I'd see a doctor if it continues, if it knocks the wind out of you, it needs to be examined.

I hope you feel better.

Please do yourself a favor, if the pain is ever unbearable get thee to the nearest emergency room. When an ovarian cyst bursts, it can be nasty business. All of these toxins are being released into your blood stream and you can become very ill.

I would talk to my gyno about it, if I were you. Hormonal birth control options are available to prevent ovulation and will keep you from experiencing that pain. (Unless the cysts are occuring because of something else like PCOS.)

Ovulation hurts me sometimes. I had endometriosis too, so I'm sure that contributed to it, but I didn't know I had that until I had surgery. Get it checked out!

At first I thought they were just related to ovulation, but they are more random and can happen at any time.

Actually, these pains are what spurred me going to get examined 6 months ago. My girlfriend urged me to because she doesn't want me to go unexamined if something is seriously wrong with me. I went to Planned Parenthood since it is cheaper and they offer women's general health exams.

My pap smear came back "abnormal" which I know can really mean a lot of things. My mom said when she was my age hers came back abnormal a few times and there was nothing really wrong with her. But paired with these pains, I'm thinking there might be something wrong.

I'm scheduled to have a re-pap this coming Wednesday since they recommend getting one 6 months after the first one. We'll see.

One of my friends actually had ovarian cysts burst and I described my pain to her and she said that hers was about 10 times worse and she had to go to the ER immediately, and mine isn't quite THAT bad yet, but it seems to fit.

I was going to suggest cysts. A burst ovarian cyst was what sent me to the gyn for the first time a year ago, and the pain was EXTREME (a rare thing you'd hear from me, as I have an award-winning pain tolerance). Glad to hear you have another appointment set up that will hopefully bring you closer to an answer.

I have that. I have endometriosis though and regularly get cysts too. It sucks.

From my friend who has it, and from what I've read online, that's really what it sounds like, is possible cysts or endometriosis.

I'm going to let them know about the pains here and hopefully a re-pap will give me some answers.

Had my appointment yesterday and now all I have to do is sit and wait until all the test results come back!
