Someone who knows A LOT about yeast infections -PLEASE READ

Contributor: SecretToyLover2 SecretToyLover2
So basically, I've been getting yeast infections constantly for the last 6 months. I got an IUD put in and I think it may be the cause of this. Nonetheless, they are coming non-stop and I am allergic to yeast infection medications. The antibiotics that my doctor prescribed made me very sick and interfered with my Epilepsy medication, so I cannot use that either.

Is there any type of homeopathic treatment for a yeast infection in which I could safely use. I heard about the garlic thing. My doctor said it was safe to try, but a friend of mine said it burns really bad, and I don't feel so good about shoving garlic in my cooch with an IUD in there.

My doctor said to see a homeopathic doctor because there are ways to beat a yeast infection without prescription medication, which in turn will make my body more immune to getting them over time. I would love some thoughts on this since homeopathic doctors are very, very expensive. There's only two in my area and they both charge me a lot as it is.

Also, I know vaginal yeast infections can go away on their own. Is it better to take antibiotics and kill it completely or let it clear up?

I'm not sure it's such a good idea to let UI just "clear up". They can damage vital organs and make a bad situation WAY worse. I had a UI for two weeks, which didn't seem safe to me. I finally broke down and bought some D-Mannose. ALL D-Mannose is made of is sugar. Simple sugar. Obviously not what WE think of when we say sugar but it IS sugar. As such, it's COMPLETELY safe.

You can get it on Amazon. This is the kind of I got: link It's 100% D-Mannose powder and you just stir into your water, juice, etc. every so many hours (read the bottle or look online) and drink it. My UI went away in just TWO days and apparently, that's very common. I hope that helps!

Oh, and if you want to help it along, cranberry juice (pure, not cocktail) and cranberry extract tablets can help get rid of a UI. They helped me a bit with the pain and all but the D-Mannose REALLY got rid of it.

I was told in a forum post I made to try inserting plain yogurt. This was confirmed by multiple posters after the original one. Worth a shot. I haven't tried it myself but plan to on my next yeast infection (which I seem to get a lot of).

Doesn't sugar feed a yeast infection? That's what my doctor had told me. Blegh this is so confusing lol

OH! I totally forgot to mention this when I messaged you... the garlic has never burned me. I've heard some say that, but for some reason it doesn't do that to me or my twin sister. I guess you could use a tiny bit on your finger first? I used garlic for a toothache once and it burned the hell outta my mouth and was nasty! Burns my mouth, but not my cooter. Lol.

Yes! Sugar is a main cause for yeast! DO NOT use sugar. No sugaring your crotch either. You could epilate or shave instead.

I'd try the garlic or the tea tree oil/peroxide solution I messaged about. It's so cheap that if it for some reason didn't help, you'd lose little. I hope so much that it works though!

There are some natural supplements that you can get from a health food store or even the drug store. I've taken the Azo tablets with good results before, and you can continue to take them to help prevent yeast infections too.

Also, google yeast infection and diet. Like many mentioned, sugar causes yeast, so changing your diet can help too.

I'd also be careful the type of panties you choose. Stick with cotton over most of the synthetic materials available as it breathes more.

Avoid baths and take showers instead. Bubble baths, soaking, perfumes and fragrances can cause additional irritation.

Rather than eating yogurt, I take probiotics, specifically something with lactobacillus. You can get these at most drugstores or health food stores too.

Hope that helps, I know how miserable they can be. I can't use the OTC creams because I'm allergic, but I'm fortunate that I can take Diflucan.

I believe that poster was giving cures for urinary infections (UI). She also mentioned cranberry juice which helps for UIs, but not yeast infections.

I tried garlic once. It might have helped a little (I can't remember) but it didn't solve the problem. And it has the side effect that all the while it's inside you, you'll taste garlic in your mouth. The two body parts are connected in some way it seems. It didn't burn me though.

I couldn't get rid of the yeast infection on my own. I had to resort to a visit to my gyn for a prescription. That worked immediately.

I've never tried the garlic thing, nor have I had an IUD. But I have suffered from chronic infections (yeast, and B.V. also). I posted on here and it was suggested by another member that I try Accuflora. So far, it seems to be helping. Read through this thread that I created, maybe you will find some help. link

Suggestions - sit in a bath some baking soda in it, it can help to ease the symptoms. Dabbing using tissue or a cotton ball with watered down peroxide can help. Condoms, lubricant, toy materials, and how you clean your toys can have an impact.

Make sure you are wearing 100% cotton panties and washing them in hot water. Diet will also help you out a lot. Yogurt is going to help the most, since it will increase your body's bacteria levels that are low, causing the yeast infection in the first place. Some people insist on using a plain yogurt as a cream down there, but simply eating yogurt daily will help!

Also make sure you are using only water-based lubes that are glycerin free. I'm very prone to yeast infections and both silicon lubes and anything with glycerin in it (including gspot creams and what not) give me one every single time. So I also use non-lubricated condoms since they come with silicone lube on them for the most part. The only condoms that the lube didn't bug me on was Kimonos.

I feel your pain - I've had one for > 2 years. Diflucan gets rid of it sometimes but the yeast comes back as soon as I stop taking it.

The ONLY thing that has worked for me so far is boric acid capsules (buy 100% boric acid powder + empty 00 capsules and use them as vaginal suppositories 3 times a day.). The scientific support on boric acid is mixed, but it finally cleared me up. It sounds really sketchy (boric acid is the main ingredient in roach killer), but it hasn't hurt me at all. The only drawback is that I have a LOT of watery discharge, so I wear a pad.

Garlic is cheaper, of course, so you could try that first. It didn't work for me, but it also didn't hurt.
