What do you think about Barbie girls?

Contributor: surreptitious surreptitious
The "Barbie girl" phenomenon is common in countries like Russia and the Ukraine. The most popular example, Valeria Lukyanova, has undergone numerous surgeries and lives on a liquid-only diet. I've heard some people compare it to the Lolita girls, but from what I understand, that seems to me to be much more harmless. At the same time, there are those that argue that people like Valeria take this lifestyle to the extreme and there are Lolita girls who do the same. What are your opinions on the matter? I think that once multiple extreme surgeries become involved, something is a psychological problem and should be treated. According to what I've read, Valeria in particular has some interesting ideas.

I am still learning about this living doll business, so I welcome education on the matter.

I see nothing wrong with people altering their lifestyle as they see fit, even when it could be dangerous.

I think that people should be allowed to adopt whatever lifestyles they wish, but should draw the line when it becomes potentially life-threatening.

People should be conscious of their health when making these sorts of decisions.

I think that people who choose to adopt a lifestyle like this have clear psychological problems.

I feel like its kind of crazy and weird and I personally don't find it attractive but to each his or her own I guess.

Wow. I had not heard about this yet but it doesn't surprise me. This is a psychological disorder, for sure. But then again so are a lot of things. I suppose you can do whatever you want with your body, or vessel, and as long as you aren't hurting anyone else than you should be free to do what you want to it. This seems like more than a hobby or an artistic expression, and for that reason I feel really sorry for her.

It's nice that she wants to expand herself spiritually but I don't think you can spend that much time on your physical vessel and be fully committed to growing spiritually (as she seems to suggest). If she really has reached the spiritual levels that she claims to have reached, she wouldn't be so thoroughly obsessed with the physical aspect of this 3D plane of existence. I believe we are all star seeds from somewhere, whether or not she is of Pleiadian origin is inconsequential because I doubt she actually knows unless she went to the amazon, met up with a shaman, and went on a journey.

In conclusion, this chick sounds like a nut, but at least she's a harmless nut.

I don't find this attractive at all. However, to each his own. I do think health needs to be a consideration though and anyone who is going to be undergoing even a small alteration needs to be given proper medical check ups and care.

It doesn't sound healthy to me but these types of surgeries are available and who am I to say what reasons are acceptable and what aren't. Some people would say that any cosmetic surgery is unacceptable because it's dangerous and not necessary for one's health. I don't think it's really my business.

I don't judge her for her plastic surgery. I would love to change the way I look too and who am I to say what she wants to look like is worse than what I do?
That said, she sounds very mentally ill based on all the OTHER stuff about her like the extreme diet and space travel.

Some combination of the above! You can do whatever you want -- but, should you?

I don't have a problem with it. If it's not harming you or yourself, do what makes you happy.

If she's satisfied and happy, that's what's important. Whether or not it is a problem is dependent on whether or not it is a problem for her - it doesn't bother me any. People should do whatever makes them happiest. I don't find the doll aesthetic in any way attractive, personally, but it isn't my life to judge.

If she was my child or close friend, however, it would be hard for me to watch her starve herself.
