I'm going in the summer. I'm not really hung up on the drug/ sex culture, though. I mean, it's cool, but there's so much more to see.

Amsterdam doesn't really interest me anymore. I know people who live there and I can live vicariously through their ramblings on their blogs. The mental picture I have is that it's dirty and just this side of dangerous to be out at night if you aren't a local.

there's more to the Netherlands than drugs and prostitutes. That's a highlight for sure, but they have a lot of great foods and art to see.

Damn right! I live now for 2 years in A'dam and NEVER been to the Red Light District. Why? Too many tourists haha...And you can get weed everywhere, from London to Berlin. So visit A'dam, unless you're a Bill O'Reilly fan (no offens)

I love Amsterdam. It's one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I've always found it to be safe and clean. Even the red light district is kinda charming (apart from the hordes of tourists). It's got great art, unique architecture, amazing engineering, and fascinating history. The locals are VERY cool. And really — how could I NOT love a city where bicycles outnumber cars?
