Cleaning metal toys

Contributor: V.T.T V.T.T
Okay so I am getting an njoy Pure Wand (finally yay!) and want to use it to it's fullest. This will include sharing it with my husband, so this is where the cleaning comes in. So while we are fluid bonded, I know butt to cooch toy swapping is BAD. So I'd want to sterilize it to be safest.
The logistics of bleach link thread was ultra helpful!
So 10% bleach would be 1 part bleach to 9 (or 10?) parts water? Do you soak the toy or spray it with the solution? If you soak, how long?
Next is boiling...how long does it take to sterilize by boiling?
Is it okay for the toy to sit at the bottom of a pan? (I know with silicone this can be damaging if it sits and boils at the bottom of the pan too close to the heating element. So you use a strainer or pasta cooking type set up ) My guess would be, as the wand is stainless steel it would be FINE, but as the toy was an investment I want to be careful!
I am still figuring out how to navigate the search forums function so if this has been covered in another thread please share. Sorry about that
Thanks for any info!

Okay so I found what I was looking for more or less. ONE part bleach to TEN parts water in a spray bottle and wipe off after a few seconds. DO NOT soak in bleach.
Here is the video where I gleaned this info...it is fun to watch as well link

The part about the "mystery material" had me creeping out a little though. Eeeeek! Mystery mystery....!
Hope this helps someone anyway

As you found out DO NOT soak stainless steel in bleach solutions, as it will pit the surface. Boiling works OK.

For the most part you'd be just fine with a thorough wash in hot soapy water between uses, since the Pure Wand is completely nonporous and doesn't have any nooks for things to hang out in. It takes less time and if done right will remove enough to make it safe to go back and forth. It wouldn't be safe enough for use in surgery, and it wouldn't be safe enough to use between partners if there was a question about STIs, but if you do anal play you've probably used the "good wash" method on body parts with no problems. Not to be indelicate, but chances are that you've used the good wash method after using the bathroom as well.

A heavily textured silicone dildo would probably not be a good candidate for wash and use, even though it is technically nonporous, since there are just too many little spots for things to hang out in.

I boil my Pure Wand for three minutes (beginning to time it after it reaches a full, rolling boil). Before boiling, I always lay a cloth on the bottom of the pot to lay my wand upon, just to make sure I don't scratch it.

I had never heard of boiling my silicone toys in a pasta strainer to keep it further from the heating element. I have always just placed them in the bottom of the pot each time so far. Perhaps I should look into this . . .

Good point, ScottA. I usually don't spray bleach on my bum. USUALLY Thanks for the info too, I am all for whatever is easy, especially after I have been playing. I don't feel like breaking out the hardcore cleaning supplies. On the same note though, I want to avoid any infections that are going to throw me out of wack. But like you said, metal is completely non porous. Silicone however, is not.
SS, I heard the bit about the pasta strainer on a podcast and was intrigued (they also said you can hum an Italian folk tune while you stir your dildo)...I usually just wash my silicone toys with hot soap and water and use a condom if they are going into someone else.
Also, great idea about the cloth at the bottom of the pan! I would cry if my 100+ dollar toy got a scratch

I use alcohol - it's quick simple and effective. No bacteria can survive the dehydrating effects of alcohol (rubbing or isopropyl) - the bugs cannot develop resistance to the alcohol.

Silicone really is non-porous, as long as it is medical grade / premium silicone like in Vixen and Tantus products. It feels so good it's hard to believe!

For our silicone toys we usually use just antibacterial soap with warm water, and to completely sterilize it, we boil the toy for about 5 minutes. However, for metal toys, a little bit of vodka would be enough (as suggested by Gunsmoke)

For the record I use rubbing alcohol - way stronger (and not drinkable) than any bottled spirits.
