I have to be in the right mood to try it, but my partner and I started out trying it in the shower. I felt cleaner, but it was a bit more difficult because the lube washes away quickly and you definitely need lube for anal. I got a small plug that helped a bit too in getting me used to the sensation.

Even so, I still prefer trying things in the shower because I'm not as self-conscious.

I like the shower idea! I think my wife would find that more acceptable and cleaner... Thanks for the tip!

Start with a lot of non penile anal play. Use lots of lube, gently insert a finger - while stimulating her g-spot or clit. As she adjusts see if 2 fingers work - and just go from there.

I also suggest that you ask her to try anal on you while getting a BJ. Your anus is similar to hers - what feels good to you will likely feel good for her - and vice-versa.
