Massage Oil Questions

Hey there! I recently purchased the Shunga Massage Oil in Orange, and I had a few questions about it, having next used a massage oil before.

Is it safe to heat up? For instance, could you heat it up using a bath of hot water? I worry about heating the bottle directly since it's made of plastic. Would it be okay to heat it up in the microwave instead? Or would be better to not warm it up at all?

I don't see why heating it up in a hot water bath would be an issue. So long as you're not pouring boiling water on it, your bottle should be ok. If you're really worried about the structural stability of the bottle, why not transfer it to a small glass jar? It will conduct warmth better and be more stable/heat resistant. Just check the temp first before dumping it on your partner.

I think that would be just fine! You can probably find an oil warmer online somewhere if you wanted one. I've heard of people using their baby bottle warmer.

I work in a spa, and we heat massage oil up in the microwave all of the time, just make sure you test a small amount of it before you start massaging to make sure it is not too hot. It doesn't take long to heat. You don't want it in there long enough to be so hot it burns or to melt the bottle. I would put it in a few seconds at a time and check the temperature of the oil so you don't get it too hot.

As a massage therapist, I can say 100% that if you are just putting the bottle in hot water (NOT boiling) you will be fine. At one of my jobs we would use a plastic bottle that was in a slow cooker set on low with damp towels in it and the only problem I ever had was that any label on the bottle would start to come off. My second job we use a microwave to heat it up if needed, just be careful of how long you heat it for and test before use. Also some plastic holds up better than others with heat. Shunga and KamaSutra both use a decent plastic which holds up well to heat.
