Lazy eye - would you be able to deal with it?

Contributor: sweetpea12 sweetpea12
I noticed that one of the cute guys in my class gets a lazy eye sometimes. I thought he was really cute until I noticed this. I don't want to be shallow but it's just not attractive and I can't get past it. Am I being too shallow? And what would you do in my situation, I want honest advice? Thanks so much!!

It's really a personal thing, if it is something you just can't get past, then telling you what I'd do wouldn't really help. I've dated someone with a lazy eye, and it didn't bother me at all, so I really don't have any specific advice, other than either you'll be able to get past it or not I hope someone else has some ACTUAL advice for you though!

It wouldn't bother me. After you really know someone for a while their little flaws don't seem so odd or noticeable, especially if you're in love.

I wouldn't care if someone else had it. I have quirks too. I don't think people should be shamed for not finding something attractive though.

Having this condition is under no control of the person suffering from it. It happens when one muscle controlling the movement of the eye is weaker than the opposing muscle on the other side.

Sometimes exercises can help, but they are controversial, and don't always work. There is a surgical procedure, but it usually has to be done in childhood, as do the exercises.

It isn't their fault.

It wouldn't bother me at all. I married a man with undiagnosed Tourette Syndrome, (we realized that was why he had so many clonic tics (which he is pretty good at disguising in most situations) when our oldest child was dxed with Tourette when she was 9) so I'm not picky about minor things....I fall in love based on who a person is and how they love and treat others.

We are all human so we all have flaws. However, since we are all human, we also can't deal with all the flaws individually. There is someone out there that can deal with this flaw and some that can't. It doesn't make you shallow because you have a personal preference. You have no control over what you are attracted to just like they have no control over their lazy eye.

I wouldn't care. If I did, I'd be a hypocrite. I had corrective eye surgery, but you can still tell my eye isn't totally centered.

I don't think it matters regardless.

The more I like someone the better they look to me. If our personalities are compatible I don't notice physical quirks, or I find them endearing.

I have a friend with a lazy eye and it doesn't bother me at all so I'm sure it wouldn't bother me in a partner either.

In my honest opinion, I would do one of the following
a) Get use to it. I've grown to like many current friends that had annoying habits that become 2nd nature to me and It turns out to be a good relationship
b) It bugs the hell out of me so much that I don't even want to talk to him
c) Make fun of him and crack jokes about his eye
d) All of the above

The point is, there are many shallow people out there including me. The trick is to separate that shallowness and have compassion towards others. We are all shallow in one way or another so you should learn to live with it ^^.

Well, that was a bit too philosophical even for me LOL
