My First Toy

Contributor: reversecowgirl reversecowgirl
I've wanted a vibrator for a long time. I used to look at them online before I was sexually active with anything other than my hand, but a lot of factors held me back from ever making a purchase. I was scared of my parents finding it, I didn't want to "ruin" myself for future partners or other sex play, I couldn't afford one.

My boyfriend was incredulous when he found out: "I can't believe you don't have a vibrator!" As a college student living on my own and with my own bank account, I figured it was time to finally make a selection. I did my homework. I made a list of all of the characteristics I wanted for my future toy (fairly strong vibrations, quiet, silicone, good for both clit and g-spot stimulation, pretty to look at) and decided to shell out the cash for a Lelo Gigi. She should arrive by this Friday--just in time for my boyfriend and I to try her out when he visits this weekend. I am anxiously waiting for the mailman!

I'm excited to try the Gigi out, and I'm hoping that I didn't waste my money!

So I'd like to ask you all what your advice is for using your first sex toy. What toys do you recommend that I should add to my collection as a complete toy newbie?

Congrats on the purchase of your first sex toy!

My first official sex toy, the boyfriend bought for me. Doc Johnson Double Trouble bullets (or something to that effect). Looking back on it, not the best product ever. The box said it was ok to insert the bullets, and technically it WAS ok, except the tugging on the cord when retrieving eventually jarred the connection loose and my bullets went dead for a while. They also heated up during prolonged use, which could get...burny.

Those problems aside, however, I still think that bullets are an absolute essential for toy newbs. Heck, it's been more than two years since my first set of bullets and I still never say no to good strong bullet. Even if they're not good for insertion, they're still great for overall external stimulation. Since they're typically not shaped for one particular application, you can do a lot of exploration with them and find out what you like.

I'd agree with a good bullet. I still use one - they really are a wonderful toy.

For things to build up your sex toy collection you'll probably want a good water based lube and some good toy cleaner.

I'd also suggest getting a good dildo (anything by Tantus is awesome ) and perhaps a toy specifically for your clit (like the Lelo Nea).

Also, once you start amassing toys you may also want to look into toy storage.

Have fun!

Oh, my first toy was s simple dildo, but I never used it much. I really just got it to have one, not to use it. It was also too big. A few years later I got a couple vibrators, I don't even remember their names. Nowadays I couldn't begin to list all my toys...
