Vibrators aren't always made to last forever. I've noticed the little symbol on a few of mine that indicates not to throw them in the trash. So, what are we to do with them?!?
What do you do with your broken vibrators?

I don't think I've ever seen a symbol like that on my toys. When my vibrators break, they go in the Box of Shame (for broken or awful toys) and then get thrown away as a group when the box is full.

I've never actually had one break yet, lol.
03/11/2012
It would depend if I had any... ^^
03/11/2012
I'd chuck it.

Generally I throw them away. I don't really have a good place to house them anyways.

I've yet to have one break. *knocks on wood* I have thrown some out before. But now I think I would take the toy apart if I couldn't get a replacement and see what I can salvage.

I JUST cleaned out my "toy box" the other day. I had toys in there from about 4 years ago that I haven't used in a few years. It was time to get rid of them Out with the old, in with the new!

Okay so I clicked "re-purposed..." but I didn't see the option there that I will use when I need to get rid of unwanted/broken toys. The symbol that indicates not to throw away (I have seen it on LELO toy boxes for example) means that the manufacturer would like you to take it to a facility that can properly dispose of it's battery and parts. Some toy materials are not good for the environment and should not end up in the landfill. Any city has a place where you can take such items (paint, old car batteries and even old adult toys). In my city, this is located at several fire stations in town. You go with your items in plastic bags and leave them in a little shed. City workers come and collect them and take them to a facility where they can be properly disposed of with no risk to the environment. No one will know what is in the bag or that it was you who dropped it off. Easy peasy. If you're ever unsure, you can call your city and ask.

I toss them in the trash.

I've chucked cheap vibes in the past without a problem, but a few months ago my hitachi started shocking my arm/thighs because the cord had a cat bite on it. It was so hard for me to throw it out, especially because it wasn't shocking me in the vaginal area, it took me more than one try and the purchase of a shiny new mystic wand to actually throw the damn hitachi out.

I've never noticed anything saying no to throw them away, I'll have to look. We have thrown some away, because you can't really give them to Goodwill now can you?
03/12/2012
I've had a few stretchy vibrating cock rings break, so I just use them as some other sort of vibrator.
03/12/2012
I have no way to recycle mine, so I just throw them away.
03/12/2012
I re-purpose bits and pieces of them and throw out what I can't use.
03/12/2012
I still keep it. i have no idea why

Got it! This is sort of what I was thinking when I put "dispose of in some other way," but I don't think the words came out the way I was thinking them. I'll have to check with my city, because I've not seen any anonymous drops here. For paint, old batteries, or large "bulk" items, I believe there is a service where you call the city and they do a special pickup at your house for the specific items you tell them you're putting out. Not sure I want to leave a bag of vibrators on the front curb!

I let our pets play with them.

Until recently the one broken toy I had was just sitting there in the bottom of my toy bag but I got sick of it stealing space and sort of...tossed it in the trash. (to be fair it didn't say not to though).
But reading about people having so many broken toys is vaguely making me want to take any that break on me and turn them into some nifty art project.

my bf used to make fun of me because i was literally wearing out my toys all the time and because i was under 18 hed go and buy me another i have about three broken toys some were just cheap and i used them alot and wore down there moters and others had defects that cause them to break
03/15/2012
it never happened to me before, but i guess i'd first try to find a use to it. i don't like throwing away stuff without thinking of how i could re-use it
03/15/2012
I've had good luck so far, but I would suggest taking them apart, recycling the metals and throwing away he plastic bits. That and if it's the switch that's broken and NOT the actual bullet... WOOHOO! Still time to have fun!
03/16/2012
I had one that stopped working a few years ago. I took it apart to see how it worked.
03/17/2012
Just throw them away as normal trash.
03/18/2012
if it was a cheap one il rip out the electronic bits and see if i can do anything useful with them. the rest gets recycled or thrown away if there is no recycle symbol on them.
03/18/2012
If it's a dildo with texture, we'll keep it around even though it doesn't work. Otherwise, we toss it.
03/18/2012
I try not to hoard too much, so if it no longer functions I will throw it away.
