When you bought your first sex toy in person how did you feel?

Contributor: Beth D Beth D
I haven't ever bought a toy in person but I bought a gay porn DVD for my friend at a sex store. It was nowhere near where I live (it was in another state) so I wasn't nervous about anyone I know seeing me and I had my friend there; we were all giggles about it. It helped that the place was decently lit and that there weren't any skeavy employees trying to get up in our business.

It was a hilarious experience, one that I'd totally do lots of times, even if the porn was more loltastic and less hot

I was nervous. It wasn't the going in or out of the store or people seeing me it was actually buying one that scared me. My husband was with me which helped a little bit. The store clerks were great! This store had a seperate section that you had to show ID to get to the toy and video section so it was very descrete. Now with a kid buying online is much easier. But I'd go back to a store to.

I felt empowered. My eyes were probably as wide as saucers as I blatantly flipped through magazines and read DVD covers. I enjoyed touching all of the sample materials in the corner of the boxes and was equally amused and horrified at the larger toys. I have zero issue with going in at any time of day. I went with a friend to help her pick out her first toy. It was a lot of fun to watch her go through the same level of excitement idea. Unfortunately for her, the cashier was someone she knew. Haha!

I felt slightly nervous the first time we bought a sex toy, but nothing too bad. I think it was a paddle and a few other things. Since then, most of our stuff has been purchased online, so no nervousness there.

I felt ridiculously uncomfortable buying my first toy. I was in there with my partner and there were all these men in the video section glaring over at us. Just made me feel pretty weird.

My husband was with me and he remained very quiet when anyone else was around us, but when the salesperson asked if there was any questions we had that he could answer, I piped up with what kind of lube should we use with this toy, it this toy better than that toy etc?

We walked out with a big bag of stuff, the salesperson obviously enjoyed talking to me and my husband I think was floored that I was so open in there. When we got to the car, he said "Wow, I am surprised that you talked to him and asked all those questions. That's a turn on!"

I thought, well, if you can't talk about sex in a sex shop where the hell can you talk about it?

I have to say though that the experience for me was very liberating!

The only thing I've bought in person was some flavored lubes. I was in another city where no one would know me, which helped. But I still did feel very conspicuous! Everything else is done online.

I've never bought one in person. I don't think I will anytime soon either, I'm kind of awkward and nervous about stuff like that. Thank God for the internet

Got my first first one bought for me, but the second time I went and bought one, i was nervous as hell. I refused to take my shades off in the store, I was just embarrassed and flustered.

I have never bought sex toy in person. I've looked at them at our two brick and mortar shops, to see, but I have never bought one myself. My Man used to buy me a lot of sex toys, but since I started reviewing for Eden and buying online, he realizes I have standards that he doesn't really want to mess with. (He was having a tendency to buy jelly toys, because they weren't "too expensive" and I had to let him know, nicely, that they weren't safe for either of us.)

I've bought condoms, and lube, but not sex toys in person.

I cruise our "woman friendly" sex shop with no problem, but the other one is attached to a porn shop, so I only go in there with My Man, and I usually end up feeling uncomfortable (I'm such a bitch, everyone is in there doing the same thing we are) that the other people are staring at me or whatever, and usually when I am with him, My Man just grabs a video and we run to the checkout and go home to watch it.

I've never been a brick-and-mortar sex toy shop. But I imagine I would feel giddy. I remember the first time I bought lube though. I bought it at safeway, and went through the regular check-out instead of the self-check out because I thought the cashier was cute. I also bought cookies. Find me a place that sells sex toys and cookies, and they will have my business forever.

I was excited. My boyfriend and I went to the boutique I'm always talking about in the city near where we live, and we bought the Leo (we were upgrading from the Mistress). The salesgirl asked us if we had ever owned a silicone toy before, and my boyfriend said, "Oh yes, we're very familiar with the Mistress." I had this big stupid grin on my face the entire time.

I was excited and nervous. I wanted it to do the job and be quiet enough to keep secret from roommate. It was quiet...it just wasn't effective!

I really don't recall feeling much of anything. It was a small store near where my current boyfriend lived. I frequently shop at a handful of brick and mortar stores near me, a couple in PA, and a few in the city so I guess maybe I'm just used to it? I've never bumped into anyone I know, but most people that know me wouldn't be surprised at all, so no worries there.

I was so scared! I felt like everyone in the entire store was watching and judging me because I was buying a sex toy. I almost didn't get one, but I did. That's the toy that made me realize I'm allergic to jelly!

I bought mine when i was 18 at a shop on the bad side of town geared towards heterosexual men with no one to answer/cared to answer your questions. The men in the shop would occasionally look over at me while i was browsing, which is probably why i felt nervous, he. Thank goodness for sex positive places like EF

The first one I bought was when I was in college. My husband (b/f at the time) took me to this sex shop outside of town on this lonely country road. We went to school out in the middle of nowhere, so that was pretty much our only option as far as sex shops. I was nervous as it was, but this place was the stereotypical sleazy sex shop. It was a converted barn that was literally in the middle of field. Once inside the stereotype didn't get much better. It was dark and messy, and the guy working there was overweight and greasy. We just quickly grabbed a few things off the shelf and left. We laughed about it the whole ride home.

Oh, and in case you're thinking; "Why the hell would he take he to such a place?" it was his first time there as well.

I was nervous, I was afraid that I would be judged for it, but I used to be embarrassed to buy tampons. I eventually got over it, after I discovered that it was a common occurrence.

I've always shopped at quality stores and the experience has been as comfortable as buying groceries. I even have a frequent customer discount card at one of the stores. I think I was more uncomfortable buying condoms for the first time as a teenager.

I wasn't particularly nervous when I walked in, but as I was about to leave, I sure did. I went there to get some toys/gifts for my wedding anniversary at a seedy adult store. In the back of the store was also an area where exotic dancers "entertained" their customers. Well, I was there for about ten minutes picking out the right toys, and right before I left, one of the dancers came out and asked me whether I wanted to "come in back and have a good time." I was so surprised by it that I tripped all over my words as I declined. Then, thoroughly red-faced, I went and paid and quickly left.

The only other time I've been embarrassed getting something adult was when I was instructed by a girlfriend of mine who was in high school when I was a freshman in college to go get a pregnancy test from the local grocery store. THAT was uncomfortable.

First time was by myself and I was pretty terrified. I thought I was doing it wrong. I'm sure I was shaking.

Pretty much every time I try something for the first time, I imagine there is a secret club of people Doing it Right and I'm going to do it wrong. Say the wrong thing, pick up something, I don't know what I imagine.. but the end result is being arrested or ejected or laughed at or anything bad.

As with anything, it ends up being false.

I think I would have mixed feelings its kinda like non of your business what I'm buying I might not like other people looking at wat I'm carrying,if there are little baskets or carts..especially if I know the person. This town is small most likely I would run into people I know and don't want to see. I already feel I'm vialated because my parents and sister know all about the stuff in my bedroom because my dad snooped and my sister stole and my mom found a toy and knows wat my sister stole too...my dad even saw the octo pleasure back massager and asked my mom if it was a dildo. WTF?!!!! I might be curious and go because if I was wanting something and could just go get it without waiting on shipping..idk probly not tho.
