Assuming the item in question was made entirely of a material that could be completely sterilised, and it had been boiled / bleached / irradiated with gamma waves, so it was completely clean and free from bacteria and odours, and the only ick factor was that it had been inside another person's body, would you feel comfortable using a toy that had belonged to, and been used by, someone else?
Would you use a pre-owned toy?

If I can boil the toy, I have zero reservations about using a used toy.
I still haven't decided how I feel about using bleach on toys, though. I wouldn't mind that the toy is used, but bleach isn't really my idea of body-safe, ya know?

I wouldnt be able to get over my own personal ick factor of it being in someone else.
03/02/2012
I think if it could be cleaned I would definitely use it..

Sure, I mean, it's really the same as new. Heaven knows they're touching it to put it together, and I don't think using it is really a whole lot "grosser". I mean, have you seen studies about what's on shirts at the store to try on ?
And hey, somewhere along the line really ancient creatures decomposed to give us oil and plastic. And they were compressed and the land above them trodden upon and pooped on by dinosaurs.
Honestly, if you think about ANYTHING long enough, it's pretty gross.

i wouldnt have a problem with it.

There are some diseases that CANNOT be fully sterilized from a toy, so no. The only exception to the rule is that I might share a toy with a fluid bonded partner.

Likewise - I've swapped many toys and am glad to have the opportunity to get rid of toys that don't work for us - and to try new things.

When you clean a toy in a 10% bleach solution (or close to that) you rinse the toy thoroughly until virtually no bleach smell remains. It is really one of the best ways to kill ALL the germs on something.

I clean my toys in bleach every month or so, or after I've had a UTI or a vaginal infection. I KNOW they're clean and I know the germs are gone. A good rinsing gets all the bleach off and bleach certainly works better than "folk cures" like vinegar etc. Vinegar has some antiseptic properties, but it doesn't have the strength nor the complete full spectrum anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-protazoa rate that bleach has.
That being said, I wouldn't use a toy someone else had used it it had been boiled in bleach. (Which I wouldn't recommend as the fumes would be hazardous.) Some things are just worth buying new and for yourself. I consider things I stick into my ass and my vagina among those.

I prefer to purchase my toys new.
I do share toys with my wife, but nobody else.
Pre-owned toys? IF it was a toy that I REALLY, REALLY wanted and the only option was used...then MAYBE after a very thorough cleaning? Maybe??? I also have issues with the ick factor, so it is highly un-likely to ever happen.
With that said, I do realize that when we eat at a restaurant or go to the dentist we are putting things into our mouths that have been in countless other mouths. Ewwww!

im not so sure maybe if i knew them

My "other" option includes two factors:
1. The toy is nonporous and can be thoroughly cleaned (ideally boiled)
2. I feel good about who it came from. Ideally they would be a friend or lover, but basically I just want them to have a nice energy.

I have a serious ick factor issue with this. I realize it is a personal issue, but cannot get over the idea.
03/02/2012
It's gonna have to be new out of the box for me.
03/02/2012
I don't think I could ever get over the mental image of the person who owned the toy before.
03/02/2012
I don't think I'd be able to do that. Too weird for me.
03/02/2012
It depends on the toy itself. If it is a suction toy or a harness belt, it could be cleaned and re-used. But for insertable toys, I prefer not.
03/02/2012
Depends on the toy, but I would if It was from a lover.
03/02/2012
If it's from someone I know well and can be boiled, then sure. But I'd be hesitant to get one from a relative stranger.

Depends on the person. Metaphysics might come into play. The vibrational energy (no pun intended) might be positive or it might be negative. Would not want to absorbe negative energy. Just a thought....

Viral diseases, mostly. Technically, everything on Earth is porous, even silicone. The pores on silicone and other "non-porous" materials, however, are too small for the average bacterium to enter into. Many viruses, on the other hand, are small enough to get inside and hide.

No... I don't think I would ever use a pre-owned toy. Just weirds me out... Especially if it wasn't my lover. That would be instant no.
03/02/2012
friend or family member, ew no
03/02/2012
I have but only because they were able to be sterilized.
03/02/2012
No, not even when a toy can be fully sterilized, I'm not comfortable with used stuff.
03/02/2012
From a partner, yes, I share body safe, sterilizable toys with partners. From a friend or family member...possibly, depending on the friend. But never anything that couldn't be sterilized. So, silicone, glass or metal only and probably nothing that isn't waterproof since it's harder to sterilize non-waterproof toys.
03/02/2012
Maybe, if it belonged to a partner. But even then, I'd want it sterilized.
