Last girl standing by Vivid - review by BrokeNHorny

I really wanted to like this movie. It had all the hallmarks of a good film, but it just fell short on almost every aspect. As hard as I was trying to like it, it was trying to pander to me. They tried to take every good idea that there is in porn, and shove it into the film. The result is a hodgepodge of half finished ideas and poor execution. From the very beginning, no wait, from the unskippable 5 minutes of advertisements that preceded even the menu, I knew that it was going to be a disappointment.

You can't blame the casting director for the flop, there are a multitude of big name stars in this film. It features Jenna Jameson, Brianna Banks, Kira Kener, Savanna Samson, Sunrise Adams, Mercedez, and Tawny Roberts. They basically took all of their big name stars and packed them into one movie, hoping it would make it good. This is porn with a plot, and the plot is rather thin. Evan Stone is a director who seemingly hates porn stars, but needs a starlet to do a sex scene in his upcoming film. Forgoing all sense and reason, he gathers the stars to stay in a cabin during the auditioning process. Ensuing is the kind of catty bickering that we are told to expect from porn stars. They play on the assumption that all of the women are shallow and vapid. Each of the enterprising porn stars have the idea of sleeping their way into the part, which would be a great idea if their competition wasn't other enterprising porn stars. To make matters worse, each of them is told to attempt their best British accent, which does not go well.

The story is annoying at best, but thankfully skippable. There are breakpoints at the beginning of each scene, and at each position change, except when there isn't. By that I mean that the first two thirds have break points, and the last third does not. You simply skip past a good 40 minutes of action and go straight to the end advertisement. Yes, there are more ads at the end of the film. The action itself if passable, but the planning and composition is suspect. The camera work leaves something to be desired, as I could have gone my entire life without seeing up Evan Stone's ass. It is filled with awkward camera angles, and poor filming. The film quality is also fairly low for a film released in 2003. It is a decidedly mainstream affair, with the usual trimmings. A good number of the scenes feature some kind of anal, and there is an all-girl orgy that very nearly saves the film.

The special features are some of the best portions of the DVD. There are a number of extra scenes, essentially advertising other movies, but scenes nonetheless. The blooper reel is fabulous though. There is a menu that lets you pick out certain positions, but the selection is very limited, and a lot of content is excluded. Oh, and there are even more advertisements in the special features menu.

Overall, the movie feels forced and cheap. If I wanted to see this many advertisements, I'd surf the web. The movie isn't even cheaper because of it. The story makes no sense, and feels more or less tacked on, relying on poor stereotypes for cheap wit. The action is fairly diverse, and the stars are beautiful, but the camerawork is poor enough to ruin most of them. There is good to be found here, but too few and too many advertisements in the way.
