Everybody's Night Out

Ladies Night Out is a pretty interesting book containing games, drink recipes, and decorations for a bachelorette party. There's a good amount of games packed inside the covers, many of which can be used at any kind of get together. I do feel the drinks and decorations sections could use a little more, though.

extremely useful review
Even though this is titled “Ladies Night Out,” this book would actually be great in many different party situations. I ordered it in the hopes of getting some interesting things to do whenever we have a get-together with friends, and I was not disappointed.

Ladies Night Out, by Allison Kent and Brian L. Pellham, is a 104 page paperback book. It measures 8 1/2 inches tall by 5 1/2 inches wide. Each section contains different game ideas that are great at different parties or different times in a party. For example, the first section, Get the Party Started, has introduction games that would be better at the beginning of the party. Likewise, the third section, Getting Tipsy, has games designed more for when people have gotten to know each other better. As well as these two game sections, there is Out on the Town and Rowdy and Risqué as well. There are also smaller sections with ideas for themes, decorating, and drinks. A lot of these sections seem like they would be better suited for a bachelorette party than maybe someone’s birthday. At least, I think I’d rather see drinks called blow job and flaming orgasm at a bachelorette party.

The start of each section has a little drawing of different animals having a party. They are just cute outlines, like what you’d see in a coloring book. This is published completely in black and white, with the exception of the covers, which are purple with pictures of limos full of partygoers.
The beginning of the book has a chart of symbols that are displayed on all of the games, which is helpful in determining what game you want to play. There are icons to show that a game is meant as a drinking game, or how much personal information the game will force people to admit, or even if it’s meant better at a bachelorette party. There is only six symbols all together, so they aren’t hard to memorize at all. Just like the drawings on each section’s start, these are kind of cute little pictures, including a martini, a cake, and a little present.

I have not played all of these games yet, though I have at least read through them. Each game is fully explained and is set up the same, starting off by displaying the symbols for the game, number of players, supplies, the setup, and how to play. Each game typically only covers one or two pages, so these aren’t super complicated and lengthy descriptions. Other sections, like drink ideas and decorating, only cover one or two pages as well. I feel those could have included a little bit more, though I have bartending books already, so I don’t personally need a ton of drink recipes. More decorating ideas would have been nice, though.

As far as discreetness, this book looks fine until it is opened. With ideas like a penis cake and drinks called slutty redhead, it probably is not something you would want kids reading.

Overall, I feel this book is worth the price on it. It contains 25 games, 8 drink recipes, and a handful of decorating tips. Many of the games included can be played at any type of party, which is great for me, since I don’t actually know anyone who is engaged and throwing a party soon. If the games get kind of boring, too, you can always modify them to fit your needs.
Follow-up commentary
Since I will soon be getting married, I'm definitely appreciating this game. My fiance and I have decided to do a joint bachelor/bachelorette party at Dave and Buster's. This book gives me plenty of games to play with my group of ladies, or with the entire group.
