Like a Finger but...Purple

The Iridescent plug is great for light anal play, for females or males new to anal play. The design doesn't keep the plug in, but it works well as a little anal probe.

Use

If you are a beginner to anal, or want to try it for the first time and are unsure if you will like it, the Iridescent anal plug from Doc Johnson is a pretty good choice. This is because it is cheap in price and so if you don't like it or you are wanting to move up from this after getting used to it, it won't be a big loss. The small size is not intimidating, but isn't a great shape for staying in. A plug of this type is best for warm up for a medium size toy, light anal play, or for those who might have anatomy issues that cause pain with larger anal toys. I do not recommend this to anyone who is an intermediate or advanced anal player or for those who want something for extended wear. It can be used by anyone though.

Material / Texture

The Iridescent plug is made of Sil-A-Gel that is a non-toxic formula of anti-bacterial properties, and is also latex and cadmium free. It is also made of an outside shell of TPR and PVC (it is unclear if these materials are of the same formula-that would make sense though!) while the inside softer core is made of the Sil-A-Gel. This inner core makes the plug have more plush give than others that are made of a solid rubber. The TPR and PVC is smooth and not sticky, but it still collects a bit of lint and hair etc. All of these materials are porous and need to be used with a condom if sharing. It is also a smart idea to use one for solo play anyways since this is an anal plug. A regular size condom fits nicely over the base and can be tied for security.

Doc Johnson is known for having smells added to their materials. The Sil-A-Gel has the usual berry type scent. It is fairly strong and keeps on the hands or anything else that touches it, so be sure to wash them after play.

NOTE: Eden says this is made of rubber, while the package says nothing about rubber.

Design / Shape / Size

This plug is more like a mini probe with a base. It doesn't have a good shape for staying in during sex or for extended wear, but it is good for beginner experimentation and warm up for toys that are slightly larger. It is 4 1/2" long and 4" of that is the insertable plug. There isn't much variety in thickness. It really resembles a finger-thin and the top, a little thicker at the middle by the knuckle and then thnner again. The max circumference is 2 3/4"-1" in diameter. The base is about 1 1/2 and 2 3/4". This is an okay size for fitting between the cheeks. There are no sharp edges and it is flexible.

The plug isn't very discrete. The purple color is shiny and the shape still resembles a plug of course. This isn't discrete at all. It isn't the best for travel if you keep it in the package, since it is large. You could travel with it if you put it in a ziplock bag.

Performance

As a butt PLUG, this sucks because it doesn't stay in for walking around, or during sex. But as a mini probe it does the job just fine. Sometimes I want anal stimulation but in the form of something intense or even moderate. A finger will do. However, some toys require two hands, so the Iridescent plug is perfect for that. It is comfortable to use and I can sit with it in because it is flexible. It goes in easily with water based lubricant. Silicone or anal specific lubricant was not needed for me. Another great use for this is a warm up for guys that are experimenting with anal play solo or with a partner. Again, use a condom if sharing since the material can harbor bacteria.

Care and Maintenance

With all plugs of porous material, I always wear a condom. It makes for very easy cleanup and minimal washing of the toy. You can just wash it with soap and water to get off any and all latex residue and lubricant. If you don't use a condom, you need to wash before AND after use to remove lint and dust as well as bodily fluids etc. You can place it back in the package after it has dried. If you ditch the package, store it in a bag away from other toys to prevent melting.

You can use water or silicone based lubricant with this. I didn't need anal lubricant, but you may want to use some if you are very new to anal play.

Packaging

The packing is a bit excessive in size for such a small toy. The toy takes up like a third of the plastic, snap to close, case. The front has a cool, slightly futuristic looking, multicolored mural. The back and front have like no information! Just what the material is, that it is made in the USA, and some other similar product pictures.

Personal comments

I am giving this plug 3 stars. It is great for beginners, has a good price, and is comfortable to use. However, the material is very porous and you must use a condom. Also, the smell can be nauseating for some and the shape isn't the best for sex or for extended wear. It is more of a probe than a plug since there is no small neck to keep it in place.
Follow-up commentary
This plug just doesn't appease my anal appetite for long. It is a good warm up for the first day or two of being out of anal play, but that is pretty much all it has a use for in my sex collection. I have a nicer silicone one that is slightly larger in size. If Doc Johnson comes out with this in silicone it would be worth repurchasing but with this material it isn't worth the condoms for the pleasure.

I recommend it for anal beginners not looking to go to intermediate or advanced any time soon.
