Reversible naughty or nice mask - mask discontinued by Sportsheets - review by brevado

At first glance, this Eden gem looks like the cutest mask that you absolutely have to have. The soft, white fringe, the reversible naughty and nice theme... How can you go wrong?



Well, it's not too far off. The Eden listing says that it's: a great gift (sure, it'd make a fun gift), a great sleep mask (ummm... let's cover this one in a minute), and a Christmas novelty (how could naughty and nice not be a great Christmas novelty?). So back to that sleep mask thing...




Yes, the Polyester materials are very soft (right out of the box), but they're also not very clean. There were specks of some black materials (couldn't figure out where those came from) and the red threads were definitely not trimmed (don't try to pull them out, they're still attached somewhere in the mask). So after getting past the "newness" of the mask, and the fact that the material is so soft, we tried it on! And the disappointment grew. It would NOT make a very good sleeping mask, not because it's not soft, but because it's almost too soft. The fuzz used around the edges is incredibly itchy. Imagine someone sitting there with 1,000 tiny feathers, constantly trying to tickle all around your eyes. Yeah, not too great.

The other thing that didn't go over so well is how the furry edging it attached. When the "Nice" side is visible (naughty towards your face) then there's really no fuzz. And of course when it's flipped around, the opposite occurs and the mask will then lie fairly flat against your skin. (Why not put the fur on the edge so it works both ways and feels alright against your skin?) All of this is just evidence of how cheaply and poorly it's made. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the band comes off within the next few days. All in all, it's just okay. Definitely nothing great, so I'd keep looking.

After a run through the wash, the mask is pretty much destroyed (the fuzzy part, anyway) and the overall design never really thrilled me. I think it's only days before this ends up going out with the trash.
