This crop is probably most suitable for someone who is moderately experience in BDSM play. It is visually attractive, and fairly innocent looking, so it should not scare away beginners. However, it is sturdy, and delivers more of a sting than some other crops I have seen in it's price range, though probably not powerful enough for the masochist.

Both the tag on this product and its EF description, boast that this crop is leather. This got my hopes up and I was slightly disappointed upon receipt of the item. The star is, in fact, leather and has that awesome leather smell to it. The back of the star, however does not appear at all to be suede as described, and feels more like cardboard. The handle seems to be either a leather imitation, or a lower quality leather than the star. It also has a nice smell, though not as strong as the star, and is visually appealing. The braiding on the handle is beautiful.

Like many crops though the shaft is wrapped in nylon. While I am in no way opposed to this, I felt the color choice was way off. The beige and white combination (described on EF as "golden") paired between the rainbow leather star, and the black leather handle, throws the entire ensemble off and gives this crop a cheaper appearance than I expected. While it is not easily viewed in the photographs, there is a wrist strap attached to the handle of this crop. The cane is much sturdier than others I have seen in this price range, and appears that it will hold up well over time.

The cane of this toy is definitely sturdy, and the star is high quality leather, causing this product to really pop. It is not the loudest crop that I have, but it is a pretty powerful one. It doesn't take much force to make this one sting.

One aspect of this toy that I was especially interested in, was whether or not it really would leave little stars wherever it landed. While the effect was not exactly as described, it was pretty interesting. We were able to make some stars, but not with "every strike". It takes a bit of force to actually leave a star behind, and when you do it has a little tail where the star meets the cane of the crop. It looks more like the outline of a shooting star.

The only form of packaging included with the Rainbow Star Crop was a tag that featured, a photo of a woman holding the crop on one side and the following text on the other. "Every wish will be heard & answered as you wish upon this rainbow to find the pot of gold at the end. Hand crafted of metallic leather, this crop is a true treasure."

Personally, I wish that the backing on the star was either the same rainbow metallic as the front, or suede as the description claims. I found the rough black backing to be plain and unappealing. I also wish that the nylon wrapping on the cane was either black or rainbow, and will probably attack mine with a black permanent marker before the day is out.
