Cuff me up, baby!

Sportcuffs are a fantastic set of cuffs that continue my confidence in Sportsheet's products. Though these cuffs will probably be more pleasing to beginners in bondage or those who have a more "vanilla" approach to bondage, even those with experience and confidence in bondage will be more than satisfied with these cuffs.

Use

Sportcuffs are a set of hand (or ankle) cuffs that are targeted more towards beginners in the world of bondage. Those with experience in bondage will not be disappointed in how these cuffs function at all, but may be disappointed with two things: the aesthetics (it's not leather; these things aren't very sexy) and although you can be pretty rough on the cuffs, if you want the cuffs to be rough on you too, these aren't what you want.

These cuffs are great for beginners for several reasons: 1. They're only 20 bucks! 2. The neoprene material is durable, but comfortable to wear. Nothing too abrasive for first timers being restrained. 3. They're easy for a partner to put on you, stay held well, but if you get nervous it's no problem to remove yourself.

They also can be used in multiple ways. The cuffs are very adjustable, so they can be used on wrists or ankles. Also, because of the design with keyrings and a belt that attach the two, the cuffs can easily be separated and connected to a leash, collar, another set of cuffs, wall hooks, etc.

Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

The bulk of the cuff is made of neoprene. Brilliant! This material is great for many reasons: easy to clean, feels good to the touch, and isn't rough on the skin during play. It does have a bit of a smell to it, but only when you're up close and personal with them.

The way the cuffs enclose is by velcro. the velcro itself is pretty high-grade it it is rough so it could be used for scratching if you desire, but for the one being cuffed, when the cuffs are on, you don't feel the velcro at any point. Also, because the velcro is so tough and sturdy, it's not very quiet...But once they're on, you hear nothing more out of the cuffs. The velcro runs the entire length of the cuffs, so they are fully adjustable. The cuff itself is a about 13 inches long when open and the velcro that attaches to the other end extends about 7 inches off the end of the cuff.

The Two cuffs attach to each other by two keyrings (one attached to each cuff; removable if desired, but are definitely going to stay put during use) and a clip that is on one ring like a keychain, and lips onto the other key ring. They are all made of metal, so they're tough and don't have any give meaning they're going to stay attached and won't break.

The only downside to the materials? It's not leather. Those of you who partly enjoy bondage for the aesthetics that often times come with it should look elsewhere because these are not very attractive by those terms. They're pretty standard in looks and come in different colors, but I would sacrifice the sexy look of leather for cuffs that work so well.

Performance

Sportcuffs met and exceeded my expectations. I ordered these to introduce my boyfriend (and myself) into bondage and really wanted something that would ease us in, and allow us to have fun. The Sportcuffs did not disappoint. My boyfriend had no problem putting them on me, they held my wrists well, and no matter how rough we were on them, they did not hurt me at all. They also worked just as well as ankle cuffs. Because of the clip that connects the two cuffs, it was easy to switch things up while still incorporating the cuffs. Just unclip them and you can clip your partners wrists behind their back, to the bedpost, whatever, in just a couple seconds.
    • Comfortable during use
    • Easy to put on / use
    • Holds up to use well

Care and Maintenance

Velcro is velcro is velcro. If you leave the velcro unattached and among other cloth-like items, it can get stuck to those things and can attract hair and fuzz. So to prevent this store them with the cuffs closed, velcro secure and not hanging off where it can latch onto things. The neoprene is not going to really get "dirty." They can perhaps get sweaty or otherwise. If you feel the need at any point to clean them, taking a damp cloth and cleaning them by hand with just water is a more than sufficient way to do so.
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store

Packaging

The packaging is very much not discreet, but in my experience, Sportsheets doesn't really care for discreet packaging. The good thing though? The indiscreet picture of a topless woman cuffed up by her man (who's also in the picture) is on a piece of paper that fits neatly inside the plastic box packaging, and it can easily be taken out and discarded to give you a neat (but still clear) box to keep your cuffs in.
    • Good for storage
    • Not discreet

Experience

The one part of the cuffs that we did find rough was the clip connecting the two. After a night with the cuffs that was spent mostly tied up to the wooden headboard of the bed, we noticed that my pulling on the cuffs had sufficiently scratched up the bedpost. The metal also scratched the boy up a bit a night that my wrists were cuffed around his back, so take caution with what material (wood, skin, etc.) you may be wrapping your Sportcuffs around.
Follow-up commentary
I absolutely love these cuffs. They have been fantastic for my delving into BDSM and restraint with my boyfriend. Though, our wooden headboard has received a noticeable amount of wear and tear where we have repeated clipped the cuffs around the same post, the cuffs themselves have not given an inch and it's work the injury to the headboard. We have also had fun using these as ankle cuffs and they've worked just as fantastically. Though every once in a while, the velcro needs a little cleaning attention (come on, it's velcro. It's like a fuzz magnet), I see these cuffs lasting a very long time.
