Double locking nickel handcuffs by Spartacus - review by Zandrock

The double locking nickel handcuffs by Spartacus are exactly as the name implies handcuffs. They are meant for restraining a users hands together. Now there are two types of handcuffs. Those with a quick release where you can pull a lever and they open up, and those that require a key to open. These handcuffs require a key to be opened. This I think makes them more tailored towards a moderate to advanced user, because there is some increased risk. If you lose both of the keys the only way to remove these cuffs is to cut them off.

This product will work for most people, but people with larger wrists may have an issue. I am a male who is 6 feet tall and 2 inches and weight around 180 pounds and these cuffs fit relatively snuggly. They definitely cannot fit around my ankles. So if you have large wrists you may find you are unable to actually place them around your wrists. For females with smaller wrists you maybe also be able to double these up as ankle cuffs.

I think these toys do have definite implications towards BDSM, specifically the bondage aspect, but they could be used by people not into BDSM. They could work well for as an accessory to some sexy role-playing where one person is an office. They could be used for a Halloween costume. Or they could just be used to add some novelty in the bedroom and allow one partner to restrain the other and not consider it BDSM.

The handcuffs are made out of metal. They are either made completely out of nickel or have a nickel coating. I would guess they are probably made out of a cheaper metal and have a nickel coating on them though. It is nice they disclose they have nickel, because some people have a nickel allergy. If you do this is obviously a bad product for you.

All metal restraints are not overly comfortable. Handcuffs that police officers use are actually meant to be mildly unpleasant to increase compliance from offenders. If you struggle against them you are going to feel some pain, some pinching, and potentially cause some bruising. Leather restraints are something you could compare these too. Leather restraints are far more comfortable, cause less pain, allow more struggling, and cause less bruising. Now I do not think either one is necessarily better, it just depends on the type of play and comfort level you want. Metal is less forgiving and is generally considered a more "intense" form of restraint.

As mentioned earlier these handcuffs do not have a quick release mechanism. I personally enjoy this. It allows for stricter restraint and make one partner dependent on another partner. In order to open these cuffs it requires the use of a key. These handcuffs come with two keys. So if lose one you do have a backup.

There are some smart design components to this toy. Once you have got the cuffs to the desired tightness you can hit a small switch on the side. What this does is it prevents the cuffs from becoming any tighter. This lets you be a little rough with your partner without the worry of tightening the cuffs further and causing circulation problems. This is a great design feature if you ask me.

I do not think these handcuffs are going to break any time soon. They are heavy and seem very solid and well made. Handcuffs are pretty simple and I do not think there are going to be any mechanical problems. The only issue I could see is rust, but that can be easily prevented by wiping them down and storing them in a dry place.

The product looks, smells, and tastes of metal. Overall nothing you are going to notice. The metal starts off feeling cool to the touch, but quickly warms up the body temperature. Metal is very hard and unforgiving so if you struggle against it you are going to be met with lots of resistance and it is going to cause some pain. This is going to depend to some degree on how tight you put them on. If you leave them for a looser fit there is obviously going to be more room to struggle and less overall pain.

These cuffs when only "clicked" once, or as open as they can be have a height of 2 inches and a width of 3 inches. I think this is potentially too small for some male users. I believe most female users should fit. These do not fit around my ankles and I kind of have chicken legs, so I do not think they will work as ankle cuffs for many users, but some females may find it works.

I found these cuffs worked well for what I wanted them to do. I wanted a heavier duty set of cuffs that was impossible to escape from and that is exactly what they provided. These are nice and heavy handcuffs. They are very restrictive. They do not have much space between the cuffs for you to move around with. I found that when my girlfriend place these on me it severely limited the mobility I had with my hands.

I personally prefer leather restraints for most scenes, but I do on occasion like to use metals ones and these worked great. As mentioned earlier metal is very unforgiving,so struggling against them can be painful. Being a masochist I personally liked some pain with the struggling.

Overall handcuffs are meant to restrain someone and this works well.

One potential unexpected application for this product is attaching them to leather cuffs and using them to hogtie your partner. You could place them on their stomach. Attach cuffs to their arms and legs and then attach them using these handcuffs. This would require two sets of handcuffs. If you partner had small ankles you could also use these to alone to hogtie your partner.

These handcuffs are made out of metal making them very easy to take care of. Really since these toys are only coming into contact with the surface of your skin they do not need much cleaning. A quick wipe off after play to get rid of any sweat should suffice. If you do get any bodily fluids on them (blood, semen, vaginal fluids) I would suggest using some soap and water on them to get the fluids off. These are metal, so there is some slight concern of rust, so make sure you dry them after washing them and give them some time to air dry before storing them away.

Since these are metal they are not going to melt, so you can place them in a dishwasher or boil them, or you could clean them in a 10% bleach solution if you wanted to sterilize them.

I personally just store these in a box with some of my other toys. Metal is inert, so it is not going to react with any other materials, so I do not think you need to worry about finding a bag to store these in.

Overall these are very easy to take care of and really only require wiping them down after play.

Overall the packaging is nice. Nothing overly luxurious, but it would be nice enough to give to someone as a gift. The packaging is not very discreet. You can see the handcuffs and I am pretty sure everyone knows what handcuffs are, and unless you are a police office they are probably going to have some slight suspicion. Even if you are a police office the packaging does not scream office of the law. It screams sex toy a lot more. You can recycle the plastic, and the cardboard.

It is possible to store the handcuffs in the original packaging, but it is big and bulky and I do not think you would want. Since you do not need to take any real precautions with storing these I would throw away the packaging and store these in something else.

The packaging instructions are actually useful. That is where I found out about the small button on the side that allows you to prevent the handcuffs from closing any further. Other than that the box does not say anything but it does not need to. Handcuffs are pretty simple. Put on, close, and HAVE FUN!
