Restrain me softly

These ankle cuffs are made of wonderfully butter soft leather. They would be hard to beat for comfort and adjustability.

I fell in love with the Leatherbeaten bullhide ankle cuffs the minute I opened the simple plastic package and touched the leather. These restraints are made of some of the softest leather I’ve ever felt. Think soft leather gloves. Of course, these ankle cuffs are made of much thicker and more substantial leather than most gloves.

OK, enough rhapsodizing. On to the details. I have the black on black version of the cuff. They are a nice matte shade with a pronounced leather grain on the outside. The inside has a soft suede texture that feels good on the skin. The suede interior is a nice touch since I have a number of leather toys that are basically unfinished on the inside. The inside of these cuffs doesn’t shed bits of leather the way some of my other toys tend to do.

The cuffs are 2” wide, which seems to be a pretty standard width for cuffs. It’s wide enough to distribute pressure when you tug or pull against them. The closure is a standard silver buckle, and the cuffs have a generous 1” diameter d-ring for attaching rope, clips, string or whatever else you might think up.

These ankle restraints are also insanely adjustable. Buckled at the widest point they can accommodate ankles up to about 13” in circumference, which would be a pretty large ankle. For reference my neck is about 13”. On the smallest hole the circumference is about 5 ½”, which is smaller than my wrist.

The bullhide ankle restraints did not come with any care instructions, but leather can generally be wiped clean with a damp cloth. For a more thorough cleaning use specialized leather soap and leather conditioners. Obviously, leather is porous and cannot be sterilized.

Basically these cuffs are soft, comfortable, adjustable and sturdy. The only (minor) negative I have to report is that they are not the absolute prettiest cuffs I have ever seen. The leather and metal is pretty plain and the buckle is a bit bulky. The cherry red Kinklab wrist cuffs I own, for example, are much sleeker and more visually striking. I have certainly seen restraints that look more heavy duty and “serious.” But for sheer comfort and wearability, I am very impressed with these cuffs. I guess I’m just a sucker for buttery soft leather.
