Interchangeable crop top system by Sportsheets - review by Sammi

I love to coordinate everything, with accessories and shoes matching what I’m wearing. This is true for my normal wear and it’s also true for when I dress for play – it’s best when everything goes together. While we’ve been playing around with paddles and other BDSM toys for a bit, we’re fairly new to crops and only had a nurse crop in our arsenal. While it’s quite functional and cute I always felt like I had to be in a nurse outfit, or at least red and white, so the crop would match. The Crop Top System from Sportsheets turned out to be a fun way to add some variety to our collection.

The Crop Top System comes in a large box which displays the topless crop and the three different tops through clear plastic windows on the front. The back of the box show how the system works and also has pictures of 5 other tops that are available including a foot, narrow loop, and feather.

The pieces are secured to the cardboard inside by plastic ties that rival the fastening on children’s toys. Once they are removed, however, the system is ready to be assembled and used.

The crop body is 21” long (7 1/2" of that is the handle). It’s made of fiberglass with a hollow, open top. and the shaft looks like it’s braided. It’s pretty inflexible and doesn’t bend when whisked through the air, so it’s a lot more dependent on your arm strength than crops that have a flexible shaft.

The handle is somewhat thicker than the shaft and is wrapped with faux leather. It has a knob on the end and what feels like a rubber wrist strap that attaches to the end of the handle closest to the shaft. The strap is large enough to fit over most anyone’s hand and wrist and can, with a little bit of effort, be slid up the shaft, making it removable if you prefer your crops without one.

This system comes with three different tops for variety: a hand, a heart, and a wide loop. Each is made of faux leather with a fine-grained leather look and all are slick to the touch. All of the tops are securely attached to a thin black fiberglass piece (the coupler) that slips firmly into the shaft’s hole, so you don’t have to worry about them coming loose or flying off the shaft during use. The tops aren’t hard to remove, though, and release from the shaft with a satisfying pop.

The hand top is brown with white stitching. It’s 3 1/2" long and 2 1/4" wide. It is padded with an insert about the same thickness as each faux leather piece. Using the hand top makes the crop 26 1/2" long.

The purple heart has black stitching. It’s a bit over 3” wide at its widest and about 2 1/2" tall. This top has no padding and makes the piece 27” long.

The wide loop is black with white stitching, 2 1/4" wide at its widest point and 3” long. When this top is attached it makes the piece 26 1/2" long.

If necessary, the crop and tops can be cleaned by wiping with a damp cloth and dried. They don’t take up a lot of space when storing and can easily be packed for travel.

This is a pretty cool system. I like the weight of the crop – it’s not so light that it isn’t effective yet not so heavy that it easily tires your arm. All of the tops deliver a satisfying sensation. When used lightly they generate a nice smacking sound on bare flesh and don’t hurt too bad. With some force behind them, all of them really hurt! I didn’t find that any of them left a clear impression of themselves on my skin, but they certainly turned the area red.

I liked the feel of each of the tops. While the sensation wasn't that different from one to another, the hand was a bit heavier (just a bit) than the heart, and the loop caused more of a stinging sensation.

I’m not a fan of the wrist strap on this or other crops, mostly because it seems to be attached on the wrong side of the handle. Then again, I don’t get to use this on my husband very much. He is typically the one that wields it and he doesn’t mind the placement. He finds it easy to keep the crop hanging off his wrist when he isn’t using it and prefers it to putting the crop down before he’s done.

I had a lot of fun coordinating with this set. We didn’t switch tops during a session, but beforehand I could pick out the top I wanted by color to match whatever lingerie or collar and cuffs I had chosen to wear.

The set is well made, and I think we’ll have fun with this for quite a while.
