Use

The Fetish Fantasy Series Silicone Strap-on kit by Pipedream is designed to make the beginner strap-on sex experience a positive one. "Beginner" kits often combine cheap products to keep costs down and attract potential new buyers. However, this often leads to a poor first experience because, well, the products were cheap. Pipedream has put a lot of thought into the design of both the harness and the dildo in this set that are sure to keep people demanding more strap-on sex!

Material / Texture

Dildo: The dildo is made of body safe silicone, meaning it is non-porous, phthalates free, and hypo-allergenic. The silicone is compressible but firmer than, for example, the silicone used by Tantus. The surface of the dildo has a slightly matte finish with the typical drag associated with it. There is a slight rubber-like odor to the silicone and the taste reminds me of the taste I get when blowing up balloons, only fainter. Both the smell and taste fade with repeated washing, but neither is a distraction during use. The dildo is an attractive lilac color.

Harness: The harness consists of several components. The waistband is made of a woven nylon similar to the straps on a backpack but thinner and more pliable. The material is flexible enough to be comfortable to wear against the skin. The front of the crotch panel and associated leg straps are made of a soft, silky material. I assume it is also a type of nylon since the package does not indicate any other material. The inside of the crotch panel is made of a faux leather that is stiffer and helps to provide some support to the crotch panel. There is also a rubber O ring designed to hold a dildo. There were no odors associated with any of the harness components. The material on the crotch panel and leg straps are slightly darker than the lilac of the dildo. The waistband is a rich purple color.

Mask: The mask is made of two layers of a very thin, black material sewn together with an elastic band attached. Again, no information was provided, but the material feels somewhat "plastic" like the material used to make an umbrella.

Design / Shape / Size

Dildo: *Please note that my review is for the purple strap-on set. The dildo in the pink set appears to be quite different.*

The overall dildo length is 6-3/4" (despite the 7" listed on the box) with all but 1/2" insertable. The dildo is completely straight but has three bulges along the shaft. The tip of the dildo is tapered to allow for easy insertion before it widens at the first bulge to 1-1/4". The dildo then gradually tapers back down to 1" before it expands again to 1-1/4" at the second bulge. The dildo then quickly tapers to only 1-1/8" before widening to its maximum diameter of 1-1/2" right at the base. The dildo is appropriately sized for pegging beginners. It has a modest diameter, provides subtle bulges for extra stimulation, and most importantly the length is good for thrusting. Most "beginner" pegging dildos are small but also too short and have a tendency to come out while thrusting. An appropriate length lends to a more positive experience and fewer frustrations.

Dildo measurements:


The base has a 2-3/4" diameter with a concave underside. Whether intentional or not, this gives the dildo a very functional suction cup base. The dildo has a slight seam that runs the entire length of the toy. It is very minor and could not be felt during use so you should be fine, unless you can read braille with your ass, but then you probably have bigger issues to deal with.

Harness: The harness is a double strap style that allows for complete access to the wearer's anus but only partial access to the vagina. Vaginal penetration would not be possible while wearing the harness. The waist band can be adjusted to accommodate a maximum of about 38". However, the harness is designed to be worn low and below the hips, so be sure to measure appropriately. The leg straps can be adjusted to a maximum of 30" and should be less of a concern of fitting properly than the waist band. The leg straps loop around the back under the ass and help to accentuate the butt cheeks. Both the waist band and leg straps are adjusted using two steel D rings. Tension on the straps and waist band keep them securely in place.

The crotch panel has a 1-1/4" circular hole cut out for the dildo that can be stretched to accommodate up to 1-1/2" as needed. The front has a rubber O ring that is kept in place with 4 straps secured by snaps. The O ring has an inner diameter of 1-1/2" which is unusual given that it is larger than the hole. While the O ring does rest around the dildo, it doesn't seem to actually provide any support. The stiffness of the panel material seems to provide enough stability for the dildo. Although the O ring can be switched for another size, it doesn't appear to be necessary. The harness is waterproof (mostly, see Care and Maintenance section) and can be worn for shower or tub play if desired.

Mask: The mask is approximately 7-1/4" wide and 3-1/2" tall. An elastic band secures the mask to the head and stretches to accommodate even the largest of noggins. The material is soft and comfortable to wear. The material completely blocks out all light and could be used as a sleep mask.

Performance

The harness fit my wife, but we both would have preferred a little more length on the waistband to allow for easier adjustments. My wife had to pull the harness on and then wrap the waistband around to fasten. With a few more inches, she could have pre-set the waistband, pulled the harness on like a pair of underwear, and then adjusted the straps as needed. Once on, the harness was quite comfortable to wear. The materials are all soft and lightweight so that she hardly even noticed that she was wearing it. The D ring system for the straps is very easy to use and allows for quick and easy adjustments on the fly. The only time she or I felt any discomfort associated with the harness was with heavy grinding. When I sat on top of her, my weight drove the D rings and clasps into her and created occasional pain. I felt occasional pain from the edge of the waistband strap. The D rings for the leg straps are secured to the waistband with a piece of the same nylon material. This results in a double thickness of the strap which dug into my skin at times.

The harness is designed to be worn low so that the base of the dildo sits over the clitoris and provides the wearer with some stimulation. Unfortunately, this results in the dildo pointing almost straight down to the ground rather than at an upward angle as with an erection. The harness can be adjusted so that it is worn higher with the base of the dildo sitting on the mons pubis for a more erect appearance if preferred.

As I mentioned previously, the D ring and strap system does a good job of securing the harness in place as long as tension is maintained on the straps. With normal movement and changing of positions, my wife did notice that the straps occasionally loosened up a bit. However, tightening of the straps was a simple process and was only a minor distraction. I found the snaps used to secure the O ring almost impossible to open. However, since I did not feel that the O ring actually did much, I really didn't care.

The dildo is nice and I appreciate that the length is appropriate for pegging. The tapered tip allows for a smooth and easy insertion. The bulges are subtle but are probably all that a beginner will want to experience. The silicone is flexible enough to bend with changes in position without any discomfort. Ideally the dildo could have been designed with a curve for better p-spot targeting. However, it is adequate for a beginner and a curve may cause confusion in terms of which way to angle the curve based on position. The dildo fits snuggly through the opening in the harness and was very stable throughout use. At no time did the dildo wobble or shift about.

I wore the mask to be sure it was comfortable and blocked out light. We did not use it during pegging as it is not part of our normal play.

Care and Maintenance

Dildo: I'm happy that Pipedream elected to include a silicone dildo in this harness set since it can be safely used anally. A beginner set does not mean we should skimp on quality. Since silicone is non-porous, latex free, phthalate free, and hypoallergenic, it can be cleaned a number of different ways. It can be sterilized by either boiling in water, placing it in the top rack of a dishwasher, or with the use of a dilute bleach solution. Routine cleaning can be accomplished with a toy cleaner or antibacterial soap and water. Please be sure to clean properly before using the dildo anally and then switching to vaginal. Water and oil based lubes are compatible with silicone, however oil based lubes should not be used vaginally. As with most silicone toys, this dildo is a lint and hair magnet. As such, I recommend a quick rinse before each use and storing in a Ziploc bag to also prevent unwanted material interactions.

Harness: Since the harness is waterproof, it can be easily washed with either toy cleaner or antibacterial soap and water. It could probably be cleaned using the gentle cycle on a washing machine, but we did not find it to be necessary. Both water and oil based lubes washed off easily and neither stained nor discolored the material. Avoid any bleach on the harness as it would likely damage the color. Neither the material nor the straps bled any color from washing. The harness dries quickly when hung to air dry and the materials all maintained their original softness. The harness is actually very small and can be stored easily in a small Ziploc bag if desired.

After several uses and washings, I noticed that the snaps used to secure the O ring have started to rust (What is it with me and rusting sex toys?). Although the package does not specifically state that the harness is waterproof, it does suggest you "Try it in the shower and turn bath time into passion time!" As such, I would recommend drying the snaps carefully after any water exposure to limit the rusting. I don't think rusting of the snaps will affect performance at all since the O ring does not appear to contribute much in terms of dildo stability.

Mask: Although the mask is unlikely to need cleaning, it appears to be water resistant and can be simply wiped down with a damp cloth or toy cleaner as needed.

Packaging

Each of the items comes individually wrapped in a sealed, clear plastic bag. The box itself is made of cardboard and is covered with images of an attractive model wearing the harness and dildo. There is some basic information regarding the features of the harness and dildo on both front and back. Needless to say, the box is not discreet at all. Although the box could be used for storage, it's larger than necessary and better recycled. There were no instructions included although use is pretty self-explanatory.

Personal comments

My wife loves that this harness and dildo set is attractive and sexy looking. She loves the purple color and how she barely notices that she is wearing it. In some ways, she actually prefers it to our SpareParts joque harness because it is not as bulky, is easier to adjust, and dries faster after washing. Personally, I don't care which one she wears as long as she keeps pegging me.

Although I think this harness set is more appropriate for M/F couples as an introduction to pegging, I think it could potentially be used by female couples as well. The included dildo seems a bit small for vaginal use and female couples may be better off buying a harness and dildo separately.

The maximum dildo size useable with this harness may also limit this as an introductory set only as presumably people will want to use larger and larger dildos as they gain experience. However, this set is still a wonderful introduction to strap-on sex.

I'm glad to see that EF is now carrying this dildo and harness set. We admittedly do not use the set and have since moved on to larger sizes. However, this is still a good option for anyone interested in testing the waters of harness play. The harness is simple to use and comfortable to wear, and the dildo is appropriately sized and made of silicone. The harness won't last forever given the rust issues, but anyone that continues to pursue harness play will likely move on to better materials that can accommodate larger dildos.
