Shining Sex

The Glo dildo combines the safety and convenience of silicone with a glow-in-the-dark system that is both bright and long-lasting enough for a night of fun in the dark (2-3 hours of light per stick). The smoothly undulating curves of this dildo provide good stimulation, including some g-spot stimulation, but the lack of a defined base means that you need to be careful during use so the Glo doesn't get away from you.

Cons
May be hard to find replacement glow sticks. Small base can make the Glo difficult to use.

A glow-in-the dark dildo you can really use, the Glo is bright enough for complete darkness and under-covers work, and the included light sticks last for a couple of hours each – time to have plenty of fun before the light goes out. The light setup (the most distinctive feature of the Glo) is fairly well designed – the pink end plug grips a glow stick tightly to make insertion and removal of the stick easy, with no fumbling around trying to pick out the glow stick with fingers since the plug serves as a handle (it also does a pretty good job of sealing the Glo to keep the inside from getting gunky). It's a pretty good, safe system, since the glow stick is completely encased in silicone during use, but not without a few failings. The biggest of these is trying to find replacement glow sticks. American standard glow bracelets are 6mm in diameter x 8 inches long, while the Glo dildo is set up for smaller 5mm x 150mm glow sticks, and while the plug will easily accommodate a wider (and longer-lasting) 6mm glow stick, there's no way you can put one longer than 6” in the body of the Glo. I was able to find a few suppliers, but it required a bit of looking.

As a dildo, the Glo functioned pretty well. The undulations along its velvet length feel quite good sliding around in whatever orifice you choose to use. It even feels good outside of the body - using the Glo around the vulva to stimulate the labia and clit is very pleasant for both the receiver as well as the giver (who gets to see their partner in a new light). Once the Glo is inside, the two bumps at the head both gives a bit of G or P-spot stimulation as well as helping you to keep the dildo from popping out unexpectedly. If you're a fan of strong g-spot stimulation this might not be the dildo for you, though, as the 1-inch waist, combined with the glow-stick hole in the middle, doesn't allow the user to put too much pressure on internal bits before the dildo starts to bend, and the lack of any markings on the base means that you might need to pull it out every once and a while to see which way the tip is pointing.

The base is probably the drawback of the toy. There really isn't one, and when things get wet and slick it can be difficult to grab the smoothly rounded end of the Glo. While this is a temporary inconvenience vaginally, it could lead to trouble if the Glo gets lost in someone's ass. For security and control, you probably shouldn't insert the Glo in further than the waist (about 3/4 of the way down the shaft) of the toy in any orifice, limiting you to about 4-1/2 inches of play length but gaining a slightly bulged 2-inch length for a handle. Even then, you need to be very careful using this toy for anal play. The lack of a base also means that the Glo can't be used with a harness.

Note that there is a ridge all along the Glo where the mold separated, but during use it wasn't very irritating, but it was noticeable. There was a plus, though - twisting the Glo during use added another bit of stimulation to the mix as the ridge moved around.

Since the Glo is pure silicone, cleanup and sterilization are easy, as you can use almost any soap and boil/bleach or even run it through a dishwasher (the Glo's abstract, curvy design will definitely help if you're combining the dishwasher cleaning method with roommates!) It's a good idea to avoid silicone lube, though, as it might ruin the Glo.
Experience
Using the Glo gave us a new perspective: the light makes the edges of the labia, anus, or mouth really stand out as the Glo moves them around, a very erotic, real-life version of the edge-detect filters in Photoshop. One thing I noticed was that the color of the glow-stick you use does make a definite difference in the mood – we started with a classic “florescent green” type, and the unearthly green glow was a bit of a change from our usual warm lighting. A variety of glow-stick colors and the Glo dildo could be very useful for role-play games - with the green a front-runner for the "mad scientist" or "alien abduction" scene.
Follow-up commentary
While the Glo is still a neat dildo, my use of it has changed. I no longer use it anally, nor would I advise anyone to use it anally. Dildo play generally involves thrusting, and it's too easy for a dildo without a flared base to be accidentally inserted all the way when things start feeling good and the toy is slick with lube. The Glo contoured feels good anally, but it's just not worth the inconvenience and risk of having a toy go all the way inside.

Used vaginally the Glo is safe and fun, although I must confess that I haven't bought any more glowsticks for it (too hard to find and kind of expensive). Using extra lube is good on this toy, as the matte finished silicone does tend to drag a bit more than other dildos I have.

I've been doing some more research on glow sticks that will fit in the Glo series of dildos, and I've found out several options:

Lover's Choice/Ophoria does make a refill pack, but they're expensive (~$6-10 for 5) and hard to find (Eden doesn't carry them). If you don't want to go this route, the correct size (5mm x 150mm) is sold as glow loop or hoop earrings, and while they aren't as common as the bracelets and the necklaces, they can be found.

Hmm, I wonder. Would the tantus suction cup attachment fit in the base of this toy to make it have more of a base?

The Tantus suction cup just might work - I don't have one to try, but the hole in the Glo is just a bit smaller in diameter than a bullet vibrator recess, so it would be snug but possibly work. About 1/2" up in the Glo the hole narrows down substantially, so I don't think that one of the Vac-U-Lock type holders will work, though - but it looks like the Tantus suction cup has a barb closer to the top.
