Good for Short Periods of Time

The Gyrating Hummer by Cal Exotics is really fabulous, unless you use your toys for extended periods of time. It's fully waterproof, the vibrations are quite strong and rumbly, and the price is excellent. The problem is that the toy gets really warm after a half an hour of use. This is really the only noteworthy con to the Hummer. If it weren't for the heating issue, I would have given this toy a 5 out of 5. I'll continue to use the toy, but only for quick sessions.

extremely useful review
The Gyrating Hummer by Cal Exotics is available in the colours green, pink, or purple. I have the green Hummer. The toy arrived in a rectangular cardboard box. The front of the box states the product name, a few product features, and has an image of the toy. The back of the packaging states a few more of the product’s features. The packaging can be used for storing the toy or it can be recycled.

Inside of the box, the toy sits inside of a plastic bag. There is a small piece of paper inside that states how to insert the batteries, and which type of batteries the toy needs. The green colour to the toy is lovely! It’s a lot nicer than I had expected. The product page makes the colour look a lot duller than it actually is. It’s a bright lime green!

The toy is made of ABS, which is plastic. It is not flexible and has no give. There is a coating to the toy that makes it feel velvety and smooth. The silver ring around the base of the toy is also ABS, but there is no coating to it. The single button at the very bottom of the base is TPE. You can use silicone or water-based lubricants with Hummer.

The toy is smooth with a wavy body. The head of the toy has the largest circumference (where the cup is), which is 4 inches. Beneath the head, the shaft varies in circumference from 3 ¼ - 3 ¾ inches. There is a single nub that sits off to the side on the head of Hummer. The nub, measuring from the back of the toy, has a length of approximately ¾ of an inch. It tapers to a point but it’s not a sharp point. The top of the nub has a rounded tip. The nubs circumference is approximately 1 ½ inches at its largest.

The front of the toy has, for lack of a better word, a cup to it. The depth of this cup is approximately 1/8 of an inch. The dipped area in the cup measures 1 3/8 inches long and 5/8 of an inch wide at it’s largest. There’s a seam line that runs vertically up each side of the toy, though it’s very, very subtle. Even those who are seam-sensitive shouldn’t have an issue with it. There is also a seam that goes up each side of the nub. These seams are a bit more noticeable but still not as pronounced as other toys I own.

IMG

The total length of the toy is just a tad over 7 ½ inches. That’s from the bottom of the base to the tip of the nub. The insertable length is approximately 6 ½ inches. You can insert more of the toy if you need more length though. That measurement was from the tip of the nub to right above the silver ring. You can insert the toy past the silver ring without any issues because the button to operate the toy is at the very bottom of the base. That gives you a bit more length to play with.

The toy requires 2x AA batteries, which are not included. You access the battery compartment by twisting off the base of the toy (where the silver ring is). Closing and opening the compartment lid is very easy to do. There is a thick, clear O-ring around the compartment because the toy is waterproof. Just be sure that you close the lid tightly before bringing it into the water with you.

IMG

There is only one button to the toy and it’s located at the very bottom of the base. To turn the toy on, push this button once. You’ll be met with the first function, which is the low, constant vibration. There are a total of ten functions. You just cycle through the different functions by pressing the button. You can turn the toy off at any time by holding the button down for 4 seconds.

IMG

The 10 functions to Gyrating Hummer are as follows:

1. Low, constant vibration
2. Medium, constant vibration
3. High, constant vibration
4. Medium pulses
5. Short pulse, long pulse, repeat
6. 2 short pulses, 1 long pulse, repeat
7. Pulses that escalate from low to high and repeat
8. 2 short pulses, 6seconds of escalating from low to high, repeat*
9. 2 short, 6seconds that escalates from high-low and switches each time*
10. 2 medium pulses, 1 long pulse, 6seconds of escalation from low to high, repeat*
Experience
...continued

If you turn the toy off and then back on, you’ll be back at the same function you left off at. This is nice because if you find a favourite setting, you don’t have to cycle through all ten functions when you use the toy again. Though, if you twist off the battery compartment lid and then twist it back on, you’ll be back at the first function regardless of where you had left off. It basically “resets” when you do that.

I wanted to explain the functions that I put the stars beside (8-10). The long period of time is about, 6 seconds. During this time, the vibrations are pulsating really, really fast. The easiest way I can explain this is by comparing the super quick pulses to a Gatling gun (rapid fire). The 8th and 9th function are pretty much the same, except the longer periods of escalation go back and fourth each time, so, from low to high, and than high to low, and repeat.

The vibrations can be felt throughout the entire toy but feel strongest at the head. The vibrations are fairly strong and rumbly. The lowest vibration level is a 1-2 vroom rating out of 5, the medium is a 3 out of 5, and the highest level is a 4 out of 5. The noise level to Hummer depends on if you’re using it internally or externally. Internally on the highest setting, the toy can be heard from beneath the covers but not a closed door. Eternally on the highest setting, the toy could possibly be heard through a closed door if you have no background noise (music, fan, etc).

I used the toy both internally and externally to see which I liked better. When I used the toy internally, I had to insert the nub first because I found it a bit uncomfortable when I tried to insert it any other way. The nub is pronounced so you may want to do the same thing. Internally, I enjoyed the vibrations but didn’t notice any difference in stimulation from the cup design. Externally, I ended up using the back of the head (right beneath the nub) because I felt that this is where the vibrations were strongest. I need a freaky amount of power for external stimulation and the cupped area of the Hummer didn’t have enough for me.

Because I need so much power, I ended up using the toy for quite a while. About a half an hour in, I noticed that the toy was starting to feel really warm. Ten minutes later, the toy was hot. It wasn’t burning hot or anything, but it was hot enough to make me turn the toy off. I didn’t want to burn the motor out. That being said, this isn’t a toy you’d want to use for longer periods of play.

You can clean the toy with soap and water, toy wipes, or a toy cleaning spray. It can be sterilized by wiping it down with rubbing alcohol or a bleach/water solution. It’s very easy to clean because it can be fully submerged in water, which I did and it works perfectly.

I had one of these and ran into the same heat issue. If mine got too hot it would just turn itself off. Good review and photos!
